Default Pulled the trigger on a 997 today....Yippee

Well it has been a long 4 weeks without a P-car. I sold my 964 C4. That all ended today when I purchased a 2007 C2 with 5500 miles. Single owner clean carfax. CPO'd till 5/2013. The car is Midnight Metallic Blue with Sand Beige interior. Options include: Navigation, Full Leather, 19 inch Turbo wheels, clear bra, seat crests,Bi Xenons, Power comfort seats with memory, seat heaters,Bose Sound, floor mats. I wish the car had self dimming mirrors but it doesn't. Can't understand why the original buyer would not get that option among all the others. Now I can't hard wire my Valentine 1! The DME scan showed 91 ignitions in Range 1 at 369.8 whatever that means and Range 2-6 zero ignitions. 458 operating hours. I thought that was a decent DME scan. The engine number is 69700681 so I am assuming it is an M97 engine with the improved IMS bearing.
I should be getting the car in a week. I am very excited and must thank you all for your help in answering all my questions. This is a great group of Porsche enthusiasts. Glad to be aboard!!

Good for you. You're remiss with pics but it reads like a wonderful 997. You did your homework and you bought a great car.

Thanks Keith. As I have seen from other posters, if there are no pics it never happened.... I will put pics up in a week when I get the car. Oh yeah, I also had them put on clear side panels and change the coolant cap just in case. I had the sales guy throw that in at the end.

Congrats! Sounds like it is a sweet looking car!

Regarding the DME readout: The last "entry" into Range 1 occured in the 369.8 hour of operation.

A 997.1 DME records the number of ignitions which occur above 7200 RPM (red line) in the following rev ranges:

Range 1: 7300-7500 RPM
Range 2: 7500-7700 RPM
Range 3: 7700-7900 RPM
Range 4: 7900-8400 RPM
Range 5: 8400-9500 RPM
Range 6: 9500-11000 RPM

At 7200 RPM you have 120 revs per second X 3 ignitions per revolution or 360 ignitions per second.

Your car spent the following time in each rev range, assuming the midpoint of each range as the actual RPM.

Range 1 - 91 ignitions / 370 per second = 0.25 seconds
Range 2 - 0
Range 3 - 0
Range 4 - 0
Range 5 - 0
Range 6 - 0

Ignitions in Ranges 1 - 3 should not cause you any problems with engine damage or with the warranty. Range 4 gets into the gray area, but revs in Ranges 5 and 6 are red flags for the potential to have warranty voided by Porsche. That is why it is a good idea to get a print out of the number of revs in each range.

Obviously, this is a very "clean" DME readout.

This forum never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for all the support and information. I would not have been such an educated buyer if it were not for all of your help. The service manager actually came to me and said that I really knew my stuff! LOL. I actually used one of those paint measuring devices and went over the car. All the paint measured between 4.0-5.5mm which was the same readings I got from the new Turbo in the show room. I also checked an older 964 that was near my car and the paint thickness read 10-12 mm indicating a repaint. This is a very cool way to check your car for repaints. Thanks again and I will post Pics by editing my original post this weekend after I get the car.

You can still hardwire your V1 to the fuse box. The window trim will hide the wire and it will also pinch between the dash and window support. This is how mine is done.

You can follow along with my Valentine installation here:

Keep in mind that when you pinch in the telephone wire between the window and the dash you are taking some of the 'float' away from those parts. Porsche wants them to float so that they don't squeak against each other.

Congrats. I love the color combo.

Since you are coming from a 964 how do you like the 997 in comparison? I came from 993s.
