Normal, mine does it up here in the frozen north when it is hot. You can stop it by opening the engine lid which also allows hot air to escape.

Normal. On a hot day, it will help take your 90 degree garage to a 110 degree garage.

I've wondered if it's a good idea to open the lid on these occasions or not.

Normal. Mine did it the other day after driving around in abnormally hot weather here. I looked in owner's manual and it said the fan could come on by itself up to 30 mins after the engine is turned off.

I know I had some kind of TSB update done to the fan a couple of years ago though I don't recall exactly what it was.

I don't see anything to check. Fan runs fine when it needs to. Engine never gets slightly higher than normal temp according to my water and oil temp gauges.

Nothing cryptic about it. If you have questions about it, have it checked.

The fan is not there to necessarily cool the engine. It's there to cool ancillaries when the car is stopped.
