Default Maintenance Summary: 997S.1 (50,000 miles)

Here's a summary of my maintenance figures for my 2006 997S cabriolet at 50,000 miles:

•Fuel consumed: 2,822.89 gallons (17.7 mpg average)
•Oil consumed: 37.3 quarts
•Oil changes: 5 changes (39 quarts) + 4 filters
•Cabin filters: 2
•Engine air filters: 3
•Tires--Front: 3 Rear: 7 (odd numbers because of nails/holes)
•Brake Service: 1 hydraulic fluid drain, purge; pads all excellent
•Battery: fluid added as needed
•Coolant: water added as needed
•New battery

•Warranty replaced parts:

•New water pump (for leaks)
•Serpentine belt (with pulleys and tensioner pulley) (for premature failure)
•Full coolant flush, replacement
•PCM (for electrical issues)
•Mirrors: hand sealed (for their wind noise)
•PSE--both exhausts and tips (for cracks)
•New coolant caps (3)
•Seat Sensor (right seat, for continual problems with seat sensing)
•New bottom closure panels (broken by servicing)
•New Cupholder set (suspected of generating noise--wrong)
•Cabriolet roof interior stays replaced
•Cabriolet side bolts retighten/torqued

Summary. In the grand scheme of things, this is not that bad (other than the excessive oil usage which comes with some engines in the 997.1 family). I hope this helps others.

Excellent report Dan. Thanks for keeping on top of everything so thoroughly. We all appreciate it and find the info quite helpful as we continue to add miles and experience to our cars.

Whenever people refer to me as "****" (and I assume they mean it in a complimentary way, right?), I introduce them to Dan. Case closed.

That seems like a lot of warranty items... Did it feel like a lot to you, Dan? The service numbers seem about what I would expect.

Looks pretty good to me overall. Thanks for sharing this info, Dan. My '06 C2S is only at 15K but doesn't use any oil that I can tell - so odd compared to yours (and I know this has been discussed over and over).

Very good numbers, thanks.
To me, it shows again that the largest amount, and this by far, ..is rarely maintenance, but simply depreciation.
I.e.: Think about the price paid, and the price in the market today, and compute the difference !
Gasoline, oil, tires, maintenance, etc.. are not relevant, the winner is allways depreciation with such cars.
..my "two" cents !

Speaking of depreciation (or lack of), I seriously believe the levlel detail Dan keeps and the material consumption tracked, adds a decent % onto the value of a car, not that you would want to sell it soon, but it speaks to attention to maintenance and performance upkeep. Nice!

I also had a failed belt pulley replaced under warranty recently. I wonder if that is a common problem.

The belt issue can not be overstressed. Look carefully to see if a groove is getting worn in the pulley surface. While they are supposed to go easily to 60,000 miles, mine failed at 38,000 miles.
