997 C2S vs 996 Turbo
#16
Having had both (997 C2S and 996 turbo), I agree that the 997's exterior and interior are nicer (although my wife thought they looked exactly the same!). However, the turbo is a supercar and really MUCH faster. Both are great cars and you will be happy with either choice.
if you can swing it, I would consider a 997 turbo. I saw some in the 80's!

I was thinking about this exactly when I bought my 911 this last spring. At the end of the day when I am sitting back and looking at the car, I know for a fact I made the right choice. Between the looks outside and inside, the performance, etc. When I was at Nelson's earlier this year for a fun day, I was surprised that I could do a faster lap time then a 996 Turbo that was out there. In that group was also two 993 Turbos which I was quicker then as well. I am just amazed how EASY it is to drive the 997 very fast without having tons of experience with driving a rear engine car.

This is exactly my debate. My current ride is a 2005 C2S which I bought new and have LOVED. Great car. Only about 14.7 K miles. Now thinking seriously about a 2010 or 2011 tt 6spd. I love the lightness quickness and 'simplicity' of mine but just want a little more power. My driving is weekend mountain roads, very little traffic, California coast. I have thought about and ddecided against the aftermarket turbos, etc. as I want the warranty reliability etc. The other thought though is whether to get the current gen tt or wait for the NA new 991. Any thoughts are appreciated. I am going to check out some of those old threads. Thanks.

I would get a 997.1 turbo. Go with the tried and true engine.
If you're looking for a little more power, the turbo isn't it. It has a LOT more power. Straight line acceleration is mind numbing.

Hi. I thought I would not like the tt, eg the awd, complexity, heaviness etc after driving mine, but I drove a 08 tt 6spd and I was surprised that I did not really feel the 'bulk'. The power is amazing, and I can certainly see how one could become addicted, but as far as the feel and the overall quality of the driving experience...I just don't know.

I was in the same situation 2 years ago, I choose the ugly car with the nice engine and could not be happier, but I agree that if you can get the 997TT you must...
