Has anyone experienced a loud crack or breaking sound when engaging the emergency brake at a standstill? It happens randomly, so it is not something I am going to take apart the console for yet, but it is very unnerving to hear when it does happen.
The first time it happened to me I thought I broke the lever mechanism, but I still get 3-4 clicks to engage the brakes and it seems to be functioning still.

That happened a couple times with my 07 997S and when I switched my parking brake lever back to stock, nothing appeared damaged in any way. I've had it happen a couple times already with my 09 997S with the stock lever. I think it may be the spring catching or binding up then suddenly releasing, but I don't know for sure. Regardless, it's never affected the ability of the parking brake to hold the car, so far.

just happened to me yesterday. Didn't notice anything weird afterwards. I just figured some tiny piece wasn't aligned with some other tiny piece.

There's probably a bushing or a collar on the cable end with a rim or edge which gets caught in it's receiver and when tension is applied it finally loses it's grip and snaps into it's seat. Wild guess on my part, but it's a way of understanding what's happening which is better than a tranquilizer.
I do remember it happening to me, a loud crack when applying brake, that was a year or so ago, freeked me out but never happened again. I dunno.
