Default Shift from 1st to 3rd?

Was going thru the archives and saw an entry where someone said that Rennlist taught him many things, one of which was shifting from 1st to 3rd.
If true why is this? Balky second?

I am not sure what exactly the entry was referring to...

Sometimes in the cold mornings when I first started driving the car to the first or second traffic light -- the transmission fluid was still cold hence hard to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. I would then start from 1st, at around 3,200rpm shift into 3rd, and then accelerate away smoothly.

After a few more minutes and a few blocks later, when the fluid warmed up a little more, I would resume shifting from 1st to 2nd at a start.

Regards,

As long as you rev-match and avoid lugging the engine at low speed, i don't see an issue

Lots of torque. Do what you want with it. I skip 2nd all the time when nothing special is happening on the road.

Give me more gears to shift. That's the fun of owning a manual.

Yes 2nd to 3rd might be the most satisfying shift.

I like every gear and they all have a place. The close ratio gives you the option to skip one, but I am not wired that way. I like them all. Even 5th.

Likewise here. I also enjoy 6th to 4th for the opposite reason.

Do you enjoy this amazing quality you perceive or is it annoying for you guys?

If annoying why not ignore it?

Perhaps it's important for you to let others here know you are amazed and annoyed?

I enjoy the infotainment qualities of Porsche-related issues. Plus you never know what useful insight someone might contribute in what is to some an apparently frivolous senseless thread. Even the "drive in the rain" thread was fine with me, IMO.

Just wondering what makes people tick.
