Default What are your thoughts on how this 2011 C2S is optioned? 17.4K+ in options!

Options are expensive on this Porsche cars, the options alone could buy me a new vehicle. Nevertheless, please let me know your thoughts on worthwhile options and what might not be the best value.

What options below are not needed or a poor value?
Were any crucial options missed?

I would not get any of the following:

Packages
P36 Infotainment Package $3,010
* Contains BOSE® Surround Sound System
* Porsche Communication Management (PCM) with navigation module
* XM® Satellite Radio.

Exterior
603 Dynamic Controlled Cornering Light $690

Performance
176 Sports Exhaust System $2,810

Wheels
421 19" Turbo II Wheel $890

Interior
P01 Adaptive Sports Seats $3,055

Interior Leather
840 PDK 3-spoke Sports Steering Wheel with Shift Paddles $490

---

My car was ordered with a lot of leather options (for comfort) and those actually add to more than the package above.

No adaptive seats or cornering lights for me. Simpler is better. I do enjoy the infotainment, though. My car has the sport exhaust and it sounds great but I could do without it. You might skip these things and get the full leather.

This is actually NOT that highly optioned, I'd say it's above average. It is very difficult to say what's critical options vs. not, it's all in your preference. For instance, I NEVER liked the PDK/Auto buttons on the steering wheel, so paddle shifters are a must for me, but not for ADias for instance.

Basically, I think this is fairly well optioned car. You could skip Adaptive Sport seats, wheels (personal), Dynamic lights, and Bose without losing much from the experience. I liked Sat Nav, so I'd never buy a car without.

I would skip the Adap Seats. Would add vented seats nice in hot weather areas Would add full leather and leather console if your leather fan. Build looks nice.

5-7 % should be doable

I like my cars light and simple, so some of that is reflected here.

I would add:
* Interior Natural Brown Full Leather (simply the best interior, especially on a white or other light car)
* Sport Classic Wheels

I'd keep everything but the cornering lights. The included options will make the car more enjoyable for its intended use--driving. A 911 without that heavy exhaust sound is like peanut butter without jelly, to me--keep the sport exhaust. Adaptive seats are incredible; overpriced, maybe, but great nonetheless. Turbo II wheels are the best looking wheels Porsche has introduced in years, but this is all subjective.

Everyone has a different idea of what to put on a Porsche Carrera. That's why there are dozens and dozens of pages of options. I had over $45,000 in options on mine--because I wanted them. Since I'm keeping my car a long time it just doesn't matter.

Those who want something simple, light, and stripped can do that as well. I learned a long time ago that Porsche does leather interiors quite nicely so when I see a car with sparse leather bits inside I think of what that slush-finish console will look like in about 3 years as it gets worn off. A 997 (or a 996) with a sport exhaust of any sort is a de-sexed machine. It sounds so feeble to me. It's not even a Porsche any longer. But option in a PSE--and you have a more audibly visceral automobile. I have driven many versions of the 997 and can tell you that how you option a car DOES make a difference in its drivability.

The car you have described is pretty much a basic car. Not much in options. Sure, Porsche nails you in the cost of options but there you go. Either deal with it or go drive a BMW or a Jaguar. It's so nice to see that ANY sort of discount is available these days. That was rare just a hand full of years ago.

I'd look real close regarding PSE. Cool? yes. Aftermkt Exhst better? Yes- arguably. (Tubi, etc).
Get ventilated seats. I'd go PDK, Paddles, Sport Chrono, full leather, dynamic cornering headlights. P17? Maybe ditch the Porsche Sport susp and go aftermkt from Sharkwerks (or??).

I'd be tempted to ditch the BOSE/Navi/PCM and go full aftermkt with these items, too.

Bottom line- buy within your means what you have a passion to drive.

I think it is not that abnormal to seeing a decently-optioned 997.2 S around $108K MSRP. I have seen higher.

I think its optioned pretty well. When I first saw all these options on Porsche's - I was like this is crazy. But think about it - what are you going to use the car for. It allows you to get the car the way you want and are going to use it. Some people swear by certain options, others dont.

This car is closely optioned to mine. I use mine as a DD and contrary to others here - couldnt care less about leather, stitching, carbon etc. I went for SPASM, SC, UAI, BOSE, NAV, PDK. I like the "sporty" options and like having Nav, BT, ipod etc. I would go for PSE - wish i did that, but will likely have it put in after the fact. This car would really work well as is for me.

Sorry to say this but. Why would you care what a bunch of strangers think?

Options on a car are way too subjective to each and every individual. It's like asking a bunch of people what color car you should get or how you should decorate your house. You'll only end up with a huge phone book of opinions.

Only you can make that ultimate decision on what you like or dislike or what's a good value or whatever. Get what you want and or can comfortably afford.

Good luck!

+1 on what Zipgun said. Everyone has different priorities, and seeing as how this is your car, you should option it in line with what you want / don't want.

That said, the wheels, the dynamic lights, and the exhaust are the three things I would cut from that list. I love the stock wheels, dynamic lights aren't as useful as you'd think and add weight, and the money you spent on the exhaust could easily help pay for a much better sounding and higher performing system. Nav is invaluable for me, couldn't live without sport seats, PDK b/c that's what I like, SC because you need it when you get PDK, and the sport suspension / rear diff because it helps on the track.

If you're looking at cars on the lot, it's unlikely you're going to find a car 100% exactly optioned to your liking, and I would rather one with slightly too many options then slightly too few.

For me, I would not skip on the full leather interior. It's a must and the one thing about my current car that I would change (I don't have it).

I would pass on the PSE, adaptive seats and cornering lights. I would also get 18" wheels...

I'd skip the PDK, the PSE, the adaptive seats, sport chrono, and the dynamic cornering lights. IMO, the full leather and manual transmission are the only things I couldn't live without.

But why do you care what others would get on the car? Get what you like.
