Default Ipod Question

I have an iPod nano and when I plug it in to my PCM - the balance only works on the drivers side. The fader, bass, treble all work only. I can adjust AM/FM and CD with the balance (and everything else), but not the iPod.

Am I missing something? Problem with my iPod - sound is fine when I have the ear buds in? Problem with PCM? Or the owner of iPod and/or 997.2 C2?

Thank you.

I think we need more info to figure out your problem.

I have an iPod nano and when I plug it in to my PCM....
What are you using to plug the iPod into the PCM? Do you have the Universal Audio interface or an aftermarket hookup?

......the balance only works on the drivers side.
What does that mean? Do you mean that you're only get audio from the left channel?

The fader, bass, treble all work only.
???

I can adjust AM/FM and CD with the balance (and everything else), but not the iPod.
So you're saying that the PCM controls have no effect on the iPod? What input are you selecting on PCM to access the iPod?

1. Yes, I have an Universal Audio interface.
2. When I plug in the iPod - I only get music from the iPod on the left side speakers. Nothing from the right side speakers. Listening to FM and CD - controls on the PCM allow audio on both right, left, front and rear speakers.
3. Using the PCM controls to go from right to left speakers, I get no sound when moving all the way to the right.
4. I press the DISC button until the iPod audio source is highlighted.
5. I have the standard 235 watts with 9 speakers.

Thanks.

Did you have the Universal Audio installed after delivery or was it a factory-installed option?

How do you connect your iPod? Do you use the Y cable? If you use the miniplug headphone cable is it possible that it is not fully connected and only one channel makes the connection?

It seems you have all the right hardware to make everything work, but for some reason you are only getting one channel of audio from the iPod. My guess is that's it's a connection problem between the iPod and Universal Audio interface. There are two likely possibilities depending on which connection method you are using.

1. You are using the special plug that comes with the UAI that you can see in the photo. On my iPhone this connects to the bottom of the phone. I don't know if the iPod Nano has a port for that plug, but if that's what you are using, it's possible that it's not plugged in properly or is faulty.

2. You are using the headphone jack on the Nano to connect to the Aux input on the UAI. Make sure that you have a stereo mini-jack cable and not a mono cable and that it's plugged in all the way. A mono mini jack plug will have only one insulator ring while a stereo plug will have at least two.

If one of these two things isn't your problem then I'm at a loss. My iPhone works perfectly with PCM. Maybe there's something about the Nano that makes it work differently but I doubt it. Hope this helps.

Tony, time for some trouble shooting! There are 3 potential sources of fault - the Nano, the cable and the PCM.

1, Plug the nano into the aux socket - do you get stereo? If not, it's the PCM that's at fault and time for a trip to the dealer

2, Plug another ipod in - do you get stereo? If not, it's the cable at fault - time for a new cable (or it could be just the iPod side of the PCM).

3, If you try another iPod and it works then there is something wrong with your Nano (the bottom plug, not the headphone socket which you say works already).

I tried another iPod and it didn't work on the right speakers.

So, I connected my iPod to the USB port using Apple cable and it works great - I now can get audio in right and left, front and back speakers on the iPod.

Thank you for your help.

It appears that you were connecting the iPod via its headphone jack to the Aux in. It appears then that you were using a mono cable, instead of a 2-pair stereo cable.

In any case, the proper way to connect an iPod is to use the Y-cable DIN and USB plugged in the car and 30-pin connector to the iPod. It appears that it's what you are doing now.

If you say so. I still cannot figure out what cables Tony is using to connect his nano to the car.

Minok - The cable that I got with my Nano - I plug one end into the USB port in the storage compartment and the other to the Nano. All speakers work with this set up.

There is still something not right with "Y" cable that came with the car. Next time I at the dealer I need to find out what the problem is.

On this topic, the manual says using the Porsche OEM cable will charge the iPod while driving. I have used two different iPods, one of them the newest Nano. Neither of them charges while driving. "Charging not supported by this accessory" warning appears in the iPod. Anyone else running into this?
