Your best tool for fixing rattles in a cab is a can of Wurth rubber lube. One spray a year on the gasket beneath the rear window is all you need.

By the way - if your dealer doesn't carry it go immediately to another shop. Porsche maintenance plan requires annual lube. Seems many "Porsche/GMC" dealers don't follow the guidelines.

I've had 2 997's and both had interior rattles. The instrument cluster rattled on both and on my current 09 coupe (13000 kms) the drivers window creaks against the rubber when fully closed, there is a light rattle in the drivers door and another in the rear side trim.

The 997.2 is tight. Its a sports car and so it transmits vibrations from road surfaces to everything in the car much more effectively. So you put things with hard edges touching in the ashtray, and they will rattle (eg. the key chain end cap to the rechargeable flashlight that's plugged into the cig lighter). The road surface makes a HUGE difference. On a smooth asphalt surface, its nice and rattle free. Transition to old concrete with seams that was made with big pebbles and sea shells and is 20 years old and everything in the car gets a small vibration, you can feel it just by resting your fingers on the center covering by the brake leaver. In those cases, a few spots can rattle, but that's not really the car's fault. That much vibration being transmitted into the interior, any car would rattle.
