Default Help, Wife spilled water in her car

My wife spilled a 5 gallon bucket of water in her MB GL450(at least it wasn't the 911). She was able to wetvac alot of it but now the cd player and radio don't work, there are dash lights blinking and one of the headlights is staying on after you shut the car down. I've disconnected the battery and have a fan in there hoping it will dry it out. Any other recommendations? Also, does anyone know if insurance would cover this?

Sure--not an act of god. Insurance can resolve this. It was an accident.

Sorry to hear this.

Spill area info would be helpful. What areas were exposed to the water?

Just got rid of our GL450 which was fortunately only a 33 month lease. We had a recurring fuel gauge issue and happened to walk in to the garage as they were trying to fix it. There's a mess of wires under the 2nd row seats. Assuming the container spilled in the cargo area, the water could have spilled in the 2nd row. Fold the second row of seats up and take out any removable fabric and see if there's more water there.

try this...

Take the GL and park under the sun for long period of time. Some of the problem will be gone, if not all of them......Maybe...Good luck.

ok, newer mb's run a can-bus, which has signal acquisition modules ("SAM") on the floorboards.

when they get wet and are used, they tend to get fried.

the good news is that they aren't hatefully expensive.

depending on your chassis number, parts.com has the rear sam for $266 and the front one for $257.

Should be plug and play, but you may need to have it reprogrammed by the dealer (1 hour labor).

Where was the spill and what is the vin, and I can give you specifics.

Water for our aquarium. The spill was mostly in the cargo area and the 2nd row. I disconnected the battery, I'll reconnect later and see what happens.

sounds like a funky rear sam.

I'd make sure its dry before you restart the vehicle

Keep the air circulating with a fan, then once it's mostly dry, buy some desicant (sp?). It's used to wick mosture from the air, ususally comes with a little plastic tray, so as it sucks the moisture from the air it drips down into the little tray and you just dump it out. I will pull all the excess moisture out and you will not end up with any musty smell.

How do I know? Last year I parked my wife's X3 with the panoramic sunroof open (roof is massive) and forgot about it. After 3 days of pouring rain I was walking past the car and though that's strange, it's foggy in side in the car.....
