996 or 997?

To be honest, I think the bulk of the difference between the 996 and 997 is aesthetic.
There may be a difference in feel between the two, as other have mentioned, and I also feel the 997 is tighter and quieter but I don't know if this is by design or simply the fact that the 997s I have driven are newer and less used compared to the 996s!

I went from a 2004 996 40th anniversary to a 997.2S. The interior is a big improvement and the power is noticeable up at 385 HP. I liked my 996 and at 345 HP, could not feel any difference with a 997.1S performance wise. I did not dislike my interior on the 996 - it was full leather and had the nav etc, heated seats. More than good enough.
The 997 is more refined and actually with SPASM, you get to pick your ride. My 996 was kinda harsh all the time. Now I have sport and normal. I love the PDK with SC. Again 3-4 different modes for the car. I'm very happy.
