There's a specific load rating requirement for REAR tires on a Porsche that MUST BE MET to ensure the tires can handle the weight of the rears and perform as Porsche meant the car to perform and are safe under all conditions.
It doesn't make it wrong and it doesn't make the tires unsafe, either. As always, you pay your money and you take your choice.

Yes it does... there's a LOAD rating for tires FOR A REASON! It's not the money, it's right tire spec for the right application! Both Load ratings are the SAME PRICE!

Right, but the higher load rating wasn't initially available, the first release of the tire in the 997 rear size had a lower load rating than the latest application (it was in fact me who pointed out that the higher spec tire existed earlier in the thread). I don't consider the lower load rated tire to be inherently unsafe on a 997, particularly one driven within the constraints of ownership here in the US. As of today, you would go for the higher rated tire, as I said in my post...

I checked with the tire shop and they are the higher load ratings, so nothing to worry about.

Perfect, then you're all set!

Report your impressions... this is one tire that might be OK to use instead of the N-rated ones.

Every RE-11 thread here seems to be full of satisfied owners. I haven't heard anyone with a bad impression of them. I know I love mine (as street tires) but I wouldn't recommend them for the track in hot climates. They wear well on track but they get hot fast.

Mine ran awesome in the hot Florida heat at PBIR in the Cayman S, not the GT3. My buddy has them on a modded E90 M3 and he thinks they rock. When my PS Cups on my new GT3 go I am getting RE11's.

It does right up until it doesn't.

I've only run my RE11s one day in the dry (MSR Houston back in April). I found that they got slippery and greasy very early into a session and grip became inconsistent. I bled as much pressure as I was comfortable letting out before the runs and that barely kept me comfortable for a whole 30 minute run group, at the expense of some dicey first laps. I spent a lot of mental energy evaluating and managing tire heat.

Maybe I just had an off day or had trouble controlling my over-exhuberant trail braking, but that's the sense I got of them. I sure was passing people like stink with them in the rain before the sun came out, though.

I've had a set for about a yr, burned thru them, at first the grip (track) was great then became inconsistent. The price is right if you go through a lot of tires like me.
Having said that, just got a set of N rated cups for several upcoming track days.

Chris and other RE-11 users, what pressures are you running on the street (cold).

I had PZero Rosso come from factory, switched to RE-11s like 2 months ago and had 5-6 DE events on them. They are great for multi-purpose use! They have great traction on the track for such reasonably priced street tires and decent wear.

It all comes down to what the owner is going to do with them...

Have been driving on new RE-11's for 8 hours now and I am quite impressed so far.
I switched from 050A's (N0) on my C4S Cabrio.

Pros:
* Great grip. I can now traverse the killer onramp at work about 5mph faster and with more confidence. Release is pretty predictable from what I can tell.
* Road noise much less (you can really tell in a cabrio)
* They look bad-*** (tread pattern looks way more exotic)

Cons:
* A smidge of vagueness on turn-in (this might be tread squirm as my 050A's were pretty much bald)

I haven't tried the new N1 050's, but maybe next time (though not if this continues).

The newest 050s are N2s I believe.
