Self Locking?
Either I'm crazy or my car seems to sometimes lock itself when I walk into the house with the key in my pocket. Is this possible or is my mind playing tricks on me? I actually would like it if it did that since I'm OCD about locking the car.
As I recall it only self locks if you have locked then unlocked with the remote key. If you interrupt this by opening the hood or door it will not self lock. Seems like a fail safe mechanism if you inadvertently lock it then unlock it by accidentally pressing the button too long or too many times
997.2:
Automatic relocking
If the car is unlocked by remote control and none
of the car doors is opened within approx.
60 seconds, automatic relocking takes place.
This relocking time can be adapted to your individual
requirements (10 - 100 seconds) by an authorized
Porsche dealer.
If the vehicle was locked, it is unlocked simultaneously
with the luggage compartment/glass rear
hatch (Targa).
The vehicle will be locked again approx.
15 seconds after the luggage compartment/
glass rear hatch (Targa) is closed if none of the
doors was opened.
Note
Your authorized Porsche dealer can program further
types of unlocking for the luggage compartment/
glass rear hatch (Targa).
Type 1
The relocking time of the doors can be adjusted to
suit your individual requirements:
10 - 100 seconds.
Type 2
The doors stay locked when the luggage compartment/
glass rear hatch (Targa) is unlocked.

The purpose of it is to ensure the car is locked if you inadvertently walk off after locking it, unlocking it, and not attempting to reenter, it will lock itself up sensing that you may have accidently pressed the unlock button.

At least the smarter-than-us computers can automatically re-lock the car after it's been unlocked inadvertently. Not so much for closing the trunk for us when that button gets pressed inadvertently. Very annoying "feature"...
it did it to me when I was mounting radar detector.
Whether it is a 997.1 or 997.2, how can these user-hostile actions be prevented? Is there a way to reliably shut off all self locking? Who wants this junk to begin with? Nothing but bad design.
I've been having major issues figuring out if my car is locked or not, aside from trying to pull the door open or staring at the blinkers blink twice.
My question is, when I get out of my car and I miss click and my car isn't actually locked, will it lock itself?
Thanks.
