Actually, no. PCNA was wrong and they changed their Cert of Authenticity based upon what I told them.

I'm not sure that's right. Check out posts 25 and 28 from this thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ferrerid=21390

It's my understanding based on this thread that "M97" is an updated version of the M96 (larger IMS bearing, etc). Therefore all updated engines whether they be 3.4, 3.6, or 3.8 are all M97 engines, while the all pre-M97 updated engines 2.5, 2.7, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6 are all designated M96.

What's troubling is that it appears that Porsche phased in the M97 while still installing M96s. As a result, one cannot assume that all 06-08 cars come with a M97 engine. Worth checking if you're in the market for one of these cars.

Cheers,
Joe

Just following this thread, message 11 seems to define all you would need.

How does one "run the codes that are supposed to be activated"?

You may have to have a Porsche dealership run them for you. There are certain codes that are unique to your car. It allows certain options to be "on" and useful, functioning as they should. For example, if something happens to your EPOM, it may clear all of that stuff and then a dealership has to activate and select all of that stuff again for you. It's all keyed off your VIN. For example, if they don't turn back on the "extended Navigation" option you will wind up with just regular "Navigation."
