Default Flashing CEL

Wife filled up yesterday. While driving home from work tonite got the dreaded flashing CEL . Ran the codes and it looks like both banks of cylinders are misfiring. Hopefully its just bad gas or some sediment in the tank as I parked on an incline at work. Having it flatbedded to my shop tomorrow morning. Any thoughts???

yeah, ask the mrs. what grade of gas she filled up with.

did the car stutter--buck--or run rough prior to the emitting cel ? how many miles ? ever happen before ? original plugs and coil packs ? my guess is it could be a precursor sign for changing them.

Been dealing with a lot of rain lately? Sometimes the coils may have cracks in them and moisture will lead to such a mess.

It hasnt been too rainy but I have 46k on the original plugs and coil packs. BTW Wife took the car to work yesterday and returned home with a ding on the drivers side door as well. Good thing was the guy who did it apologized in a letter and is offering to pay for the repair. My car has had a rough week and it's only Monday!

lol---just changed it for a little while for that very purpose.

it's time to swap out your plugs and coils. i just did mine with 66k on the clock after my '05 was running rough and tripped the cel a few times over the course of a month.

the plugs were kicked and as Dan suggested, three of the coil packs were cracked and chipping in some areas. depending on the build month of your '05---they're near 6 years old ! after the change---i've not had one issue.

get your coil packs here: seller is a r-lister and you won't find them cheaper.

This is exactly what happened to me in my C4S a few weeks ago. Lots of rain, then a flashing CEL the next day with a very rough idle. It was a single cracked coil pack.

What code were you getting? P0300 is a random misfire code that could indicate that (as is described) the problem is not isolated to one cylinder. If the 997 has individual coil packs, i'm pretty sure it does, and a single coil has failed you'll get a misfire on an individual cylinder (P0302 - cyl 2 misfire, for example).

An easy way to test if the pack is cracked is spray it with water while it's running. If it begins to misfire, there's a good chance there's a crack.

Gook luck either way!

Well thought I would provide some closure to this thread. Took the car over to Brother to Brother in Medford via flatbed. Coil packs were shot. Replaced all 6 Coils and Plugs and all is well!
