Smile Keyless entry and start?

My 911 illiterate friends are amused that the new 911s don't have keyless entry and start, like their for example Lexuses (Lexii ?), they think this is convenience like all the other things loaded in our cars.
When I talk about conservative 911 traditions and history with running race starts etc, they think that we should now get with it.
What is the attitude of members to this?

I'm old-fashioned --- I prefer old-fashioned maps, old-fashioned dipsticks, old-fashioned manual transmissions, and old-fashioned keys.

there is a lot of luxury electronics that the porsche is missing that my lexus has!! asides from the keyless entry, the power telescopic steering, sound when i lock the doors, etc.. i dont know why toyota can include it for the prices they sell toyota/lexus cars....not that its a deal breaker or anything, i still bought a porsche regardless, its not whats makes the porsche a porsche but they give you GPS, ipod etc.. why not include more of the cooler stuff too

as for the fans of the old school stuff, i can respect that but im young, i like cool electronics and gadgets etc..

Telescopic electric steering columns have no place in a sports car. Besides, they are prone to fail and cause electrical errors over time.

Umm...porsche is a sports car first and luxury car second. Although 911s have gotten more luxurious over the years.
Who needs a power telescoping steering wheel anyway?
I set it once and never touched it again. Even if u have mutiple drivers its not a big deal to not have those things.
Additionally some of those things may have been kept out to reduce weight/complexity issues as well.

I don't even like power seats. Keep that silly stuff out of my Porsches. Needless weight and complexity that adds nothing to the driving experience.

What I would rather see is a smaller key. Why in today's sophisticated technology we have to carry a big key is beyond me.

There are far too many frivolous electronic gadgets on the 911 already but I suppose that's whats excites young customers like the one above these days who probably drover their first 911 on their computer.

I am 51 and a classic car nut so old and simple to me = good. But I appreciate from a marketing and business perspective that Porsche will probably have to follow the herd just to stay competitive.

If I recall, Porsche once offered Keyless Entry previously on the 911 and it didnt go over so well.
My wife and I were looking at Panamera's this weekend and that was one feature she indicated she must have. However, we both agreed that we would not want it on the 997 as it is the historical feature of the car.

Wife's car/SUV a must but not my 997. Even the powered adjustable seats in my 997 was not necessary. The only thing I do wish for is the autmated on/off headlights.
