I like the look of quad exhaust tips. However, as one is basically deflecting a straight flow into two outlets each via a diverter, I wonder about the possibility of the slight increase in backpressure resulting in engine damage over the long term. Does anybody know?

No. Unless you have some sort of diameter constrictor you are not adding to back pressure.

I regret them too and so strongly agree. Whatever happened to "form follows function?" I bet the f-quads made Herr Docktor Porsche roll over in his grave.

The (997.1) normal "quad" tips are fake while the PSE's are not.

Wow...such strong reaction on a cosmetic touch. I think the faux quads fill out the opening nicely. If I recall correctly, one side of the side-intake is also "fake" on the 987 Boxster.
