Default CS2 vs GT3 question

i currently drive a CS2 PDK which is excellent in all circumstances..
I am thinking about swapping it for a new '10 GT3

Anyone can advise on the following?
- is the GT3 a nightmare in everyday use clutch wise/suspension wise?
- is it uncomfortable in long trips?

and can I swap the cup tires for normal tires if i wanted to?

I would very much welcome advice from someone who has either done the same or has both cars?

Coming from a 997.1S to a 997.2 GT3, here is my impression.

The 997.2 GT3 is quite okay for everyday drive. The suspension in normal mode to me is, how do I put it... somewhere between the normal and sport modes in my 997.1S.

The clutch is heavier than my 997.1S but we will get used to it.

The interior sound is not loud if we keep the rpm under 4,000rpm (above that is music to our ears.)

My wife and I just finished a few hundred miles road trips in the 997.2 GT3, which has the Adaptive Sport seats just like my 997.1S. When cruising on freeway, my wife and I could have normal conversation relaxingly. If we could drive long road trip in a 997.1S, we could do it in a 997.2 GT3 (my car has the front lift system, which also helps me to go anywhere that I went with my 997.1S.)

And yes, if we want, we can swap the OEM tires (mine came with the PZero Corsa System) with tires like the PS2.

Hope it helps.

With best regards,

The biggest issue on the street may be the very low clearance of the front spoiler lip. You will want to get the front lift option. Otherwise you will certainly scrape the lip on speed bumps, steep driveway/garage ramps, etc. You will very quickly become accustomed to the stiff clutch and not notice it.

I can only speak to my experience with a .1 GT3 - you have a much more enjoyable all-around street car now.

I ran mine with pirellis Pzeros and generally like a "sports car" ride - but over time the Gt3 had less utility for me on the street and it wasn't being driven enough to justify the depreciation.
YMMV.

Ross, I came fro TWO GT3s to my PSK C2S.
If you can get a GT3 and not kill yourself financially then go fer it.
However, the C2S is much easier to drive, It MAKES me want to drive
it EVERYDAY. The GT3 didnt do that. I had to be in a mood to go out
and drive it. On the track I felt like a big dog, but I didnt go to the track
everyday.
I would sit tight, know that you have one of the best 911's EVER and relax and enjoy it.
the 2010 GT3 is just a tad faster than the C2S.
You are going to take a huge hit tho. You are going to have to pay new sales tax and license
again on MSRP where your C2S is done with right?
I wouldnt do it unless you are going to the track every week.

Make the switch...

you'll get a limp wrist from driving PDK.

Seriously though, sounds like you've got a bad case of "The grass is greener on the other side of the hill". Weren't you just jonesing over a 993 last week? You should stop checking out the other ladies and love the one you're with! You've already got an incredible car. Just enjoy it, and keep your wandering eyes in check.

I would look at this from different angle - why do you want to swap to GT3?

Are you going to use it on track exclusively or only for commute? I just got confused - you do not want r-comp tires it comes with? Why?

It is just quite cheaper to replace C2S suspension with core GT3 parts to get very similar road feel and steering sensitivity but if you do not need GT3 engine that is optimized for revving up to 8K, do not need sport clutch, etc - why to pay for all that?

It is just does not make much sense to me to buy GT3 car and try to convert it into C2S.

If you will use the car on the track.. get GT3

If it will be used on the road... get a C2S

You'll be happier with the c2s for everyday unless you are a track junkie.. then GT3 is the ticket

Then again I have a 997.1 C2S and its my track car

Quoted for truth. Two reliable paths to disappointment are buying a GT3 and trying to turn it into a Carrera S or buying a Carrera S and trying to turn it into a GT3. The two cars share a lot of DNA, but they're built for different tasks and the best bet is to buy the right platform to start.

Unless you're going to be out at the track at least once a month I don't think the upsides of a GT3 outweigh the downsides as a daily driver. I'm willing to tolerate a lot of daily driving frustration for the times when I'm able to put the spurs to my car out on the track. That's the only place you can really explore the differences between a C2S and a GT3 anyway.

+1.

Just had an extended first break-in drive with my RS yesterday.

Everything feel stiffer in comparison (to the club coupe) - gas, brake, seats (bucket) and suspension. Noise in cabin much higher. Radio is useless. All these things I can get use to, but given a choice, I will not pick it as a daily driver.

GT3 is probably in between C2S and RS for stiffness.

Going back to the club coupe, it feels like driving a Cadillac...

So you're bored of PDK already?

Agreed! Also, you were just looking at 993 like a couple of weeks ago.

Definitely C2S is a much much better daily, and GT3 track oriented. What do you need the car for? Daily, track, weekends?

It sounds like in addition to C2S, you're looking for a fun, more basic, lighter, manual car... so why not keep your C2S, and find a nice pre-owned 993, or 996/997.1 GT3, for the days you need to feel that OTHER experience?

I love the pdk. Drive it aggressively, come into a corner downshifting, its great!
Its to the point where a manual seems so retro

I'll actually answer seriously for once (brace yourself):

Given your predilection for new experiences, why don't you consider joining a luxury car club or finding a luxury car rental service? We have several here in California (e.g. Club Sportiva) and I'm sure there may be one in a city near you.

This way you can periodically get that sharp joy of newness while still enjoying the daily awesomeness that is a 911.
