Open the front hood and copy down the option codes, then enter them in the option code -decoder and you will have your answer.
The 2005 997 US order guide has no mention of a sport suspension or LSD option, if it's a UK option then OP is lucky to be a Brit. Ours were all PASM-equipped by default.

G53: OP = you :-)

I think I have confirmed my suspicion. See the article below from Nov 2004 issue of EVO (Brit car mag par excellence), mentioning that as an alternative to the standard PASM suspension on the 3.8L 997S, Porsche offered European customers a "sport suspension" option which deleted the "active" dampers in exchange for lower, harder springs and traditional matched fixed-rate shocks. This option was not offered to us hayseeds over here in 'merica.

This may be how your car was specced from the factory. If so, rejoice!

right so it has the wires coming out of the rear of the "shock housing" and fairly thick metal pipe spanning between the two which i presume is the hydraulics for the PASM. So hopefully this is correct?

i wonder therefore whether mine is all linked in to the sport button. I may repost with a more specific title to cast the net wider...

thanks again for assistance everyone

I wouldn't worry too much as EU cars were optioned differently and with more flexibility, so I suspect, PASM was NOT standard on 2S cars in EU and therefore didn't come with this car!

If it is standard, then maybe this was the sport suspension option with PASM delete!

The lower suspension was not offered on the US 997.1 cars. It was finally available on the 0997.2 cars. Porsche (correctly) knew that US roads are not up to par to support such a lower suspension.

Hello,

judging by your description your car most likely features the optional -20mm sport suspension. Option code is P17 and should be listed on the car´s identification sticker (underneath the front hood, I presume). The car is stiffer but more communicative and, as a highlight, comes with a mechanical lim.-slip differential. Unlike the 997.2 models, the stiffer sport suspension is entirely mechanical and therefore misses the center console switch.

When I hit the PASM button on mine, I can immediately feel a difference
in the suspension and my fillings in my teeth start shaking loose.

In fact, I can very rarely use it on these damn rough Midwest roads.

OP here: as i don't have the original booklet and therefore sticker with codes, I have written to Porsche for an identity and options check. However in the meantime I was hoping to receive some comments on the wiring that runs into the suspension and the metal pipe as previously mentioned, which can be seen when you take put the plastic covers on either side of the batter cover. If this is not PASM is it the ABS??
