Default 997 C2S sports chrono question

Hi, I've just bought a 2005 997C2S and am loving it. Very different from my 964! I have a question which I would grateful if someone could answer: the car has the sport chrono package and has the sport button, but it doesn't have the button with the picture of the shock absorber....does this mean i don't have the suspension function?? i'm hoping not. I thought all S's came with the active suspension as standard??

any help appreciated

AFAIK, the S came standard with PASM. No button with the shock icon means your car doesn't have PASM. Maybe the EU version was different? Just fishing here, but is your car really an S (does the engine say 3.8)?

All S cars should have "3.8" on the airbox in the engine bay.

yes it's got all of those. i guess the question is can it have PASM without the button? If not I've been royally ripped off by someone I know and trusted. The booklet says PASM is switched on when the sport button is pressed?? Will the VIN decoder tell me if it's an S?

robbonds, i don't have an interior pic i'm afraid. it just has the spoiler, sport and PSM off button. I ran the VIN and it says 3.8, that's why i'm confused....and now have a horrible feeling in my stomach....the original booklet was lost but Porsche sent the owner a new one (with covering letter) stamped, only the VIN wasn't filled in as they (apparently) don't re sticker it. so the owner filled the VIN in. Obviously i need to call the OPC tomorrow and confirm. could it be the car was optioned with the lowered sports suspension and therefore not PASM?

the vin is on your car..check and make sure it matches..if it does you are fine..if the vin says 3.8 you have an S

Instead of relying on the button's presence, I recommend you go under your hood and remove the battery cover, then either the left or right rain tray cover. If you see a wire coming through the center of your strut mount then you have PASM.

When you activate your SPORT button it should also activate PASM if the car has it. It's a very noticeable difference on my C2S.

just look at the windshield - at the very bottom on the drivers side is the vin - run that vin
it will tell you if you have an S or not

Wasn't there a ROW (non-US) -30mm sport suspension option available on the '05 cars? I think the OP may have this suspension (which I believe was a non-active design). I believe this option came paired with an LSD. In which case the car would be lower, handle great on smooth roads, and NOT have a "PASM" button since the suspension is not adjustable.

Open the front hood and copy down the option codes, then enter them in the option code -decoder and you will have your answer.

thanks number9ine i will check it out tomorrow night. I really hope those wires are sticking out... I used scouser's VIN decoder and it did say S. If it doesn't turn out to have PASM wires and the VIN decodes as an S then it must have been specified without and hopefully with sports suspension. i can't say i feel the ride harden up when i hit the sport button, but several friends have said it can be difficult to tell. When i took a friend's S for a test drive i couldn't feel the difference in ride quality but I could feel the throttle response change.
