Good call.

^^^ If you're going to recommend hard to get/find Porsche's then perhaps the hard to find `07 Cayenne?

I am like you, no kids and financially independent...buy one! You can't take the money with you. Life is too short not to have things that make you smile. When I drive my 997S cab, I feel like I am at home and with a good friend. These cars are simply amazing! You won't be disappointed!

Similar story here. Late 40s, always wanted one, finally decided that as long as I'm hitting all the other targets, e.g., 401k, 529 plan, etc., why not put some of the surplus toward something I'll get daily enjoyment from. At some point, deferred gratification has to mean today, or else it is gratification denied. That was the theory, or rationale, and it has worked out great. And my frugal side was happy that the "like new" very low mileage CPO'd '07 997S was had for $32k under original sticker, a few months back. Think of it as diversifying your assets.

Last year I did two things. I retired and got a 06 C2S. It's great no longer having to work and being able to go for a drive at any time of the day. Go for it.

Single, no kids, financially solvent - ****, buy the porsche and a Ferrari! also, forget the girl at the gym. I love women/people like that. the car is stupid but i'm sure she spends money on something that others would think ridiculous.

I was in my 20's when I purchased my first Porsche and have owned several since. You will have more fun with the Porsche and meet the greatest people. This is a great fraternity which you will thoroughly enjoy.

If you have to ask you're not sick enough to own one. (I bought my first at age 19--and have been addicted ever since).

What response were you expecting from the 997 gang? Buying a 997 may change your situation-not married no kids. You should not buy one: (1) if you value money over contentment, (2) want to stop dreaming & start living the dream, (3) don't like little kids in the car next to you with the same dreamy look you had when you were 10. Life is too short mate-eat, drink, & drive a Porsche.

Cheers

Can relate to your deliberations, same age and bought first Porsche (GT3 Clubsport) last year after wanting one forever. For the life of me I cannot work out why I waited. I should simply have bought a cheaper one sooner and upgraded over the years as I could afford better. Like Edgy says, when you find yourself winding down your window to listen to the Porsche in traffic next to you and you find yourself on the internet for ridiculous amounts of time searching for that perfect beast you'll know you're done for ..... the only outcome posible then is to own one. You'll know when purchase is inevitable. Its a slippery slope, relax and enjoy the ride!!

I only own a 964, so I have much less money tied up in my car vs. a 997. That said, in the three years I have owned the car I have done so many wonderful road trips, met so many wonderful P. car people, and learned so much about the wonderful engineering that goes into these cars. Whatever the financial cost has been, it really pails in comparison to the thousands of extremely satisfying memories I have gained from owning the car! It's a lifestyle...

The car + the experiences = too much fun to add up!

One day I realized I was laying on the couch reading about Porsches and always thinking... one day? My stack of Porsche magazines was growing, but I was never actually experiencing an of this first-hand. I put down my magazine and told my wife right then and there, I was going to buy a 911 in the next couple of weeks and start a new hobby. All this while I had two small kids (3 yrs. and 3 months at the time).

Let your Porsche freak out. These cars, and the whole experience, really are worth it!
