Sorry for the delays. The last time I talked to the Fuchs Racing guys in the USA they reported a couple of technical issues. Apparently the Fuchs windmill shape is complex to drop forge. Further, they have an entirely different paint process than what was permitted years ago, thanks to emissions rules. Rather than dipping these things in a vat, they will be powder painted after machining. I hope to have some real specs soon like common dimensions in 19 inch wheels, along with corresponding weight. Being drop forged vice pressure cast, the weight should be down, and the strength should be way up.

I hope to see a physical product within a couple of weeks.

those real FUCHS on the Sport Classic are TIGHT!!!! i hope the reproductions come out as well, or better(for less money, of course, or else why......)! good luck with it all, looking forward to seeing the end result.

Why thank you - I do love them for the change in looks of the car and have been very happy with reduced wheel weights over OEM. They are tough to clean, but not terrible.

Please keep in mind that the new Fuchs Racing wheels will not be 'reproductions' in the usual sense of that word. The release of 19 inch Fiuchs windmills has been years in the making, so they are not a reproduction of the Sport Classic car's wheels. They will be far superior to the pressure cast Fuchs lookalikes on the Sport Classic 997.

Recall the differences between a cast wheel and a drop forged wheel--

(1) With drop forging, a substantial mass is literally dropped repeatedly on a piece of aluminum billet until the wheel shape is achieved. When it's done a bit of machining is done (for cutting out the cut-outs between the pedals). The granularity of the aluminum was formed when the aluminum ingot was formed and then is reshaped into the new shape. A forged wheel will BEND as opposed to FRACTURE when subjected to excessive lateral pressure.

(2) Cast wheels are made in a mold into which liquid aluminum is injected and then allowed to cool. Barring any occlusions of the metal, the aluminum when cooled assumes a new grain structure based upon the casting design. When a cast wheel is subjected to severe abuse it will break, instead of bend. Today's PRESSURE cast wheels are better than simple cast wheels, but still substantially less strong than a drop forged wheel.

Porsche, as an automotive manufacturer, evolved away from forged rims (for the most part) as production costs soared for drop forged wheels. It was part of their effort to control costs.

Saw the new sport classics at the NY Auto Show this past weekend.

All I can say is wow - they really look great. $6,400 option as listed on the car's description.
