Default Cracked block on a 05 C2S.

Just got the news that the #3 and #6 cylinders are cracked on my '05 C2S.

No idea how it happened. I had been driving the car up until the end of January without any problems. Then I suspected the clutch was going so I parked it until I had the cash to deal with it (ex and her lawyer were coming back for a 2nd bite of the apple). I went to move it after it sat for about a month and it started doing its best insect fogger imitation.

The dealer dropped the engine and pulled the heads. They did discard the coolant without doing the specific gravity test I asked them to. two cracked cylinders, no core value, bend over this won't hurt a bit.

Ouch. I'm sorry to hear this.

Safe to assume by the tone of your message that there was no CPO on the car? What about goodwill? You should see if Porsche will come to the table and help with the parts or labour.

Can we get more details? How many miles? Have you owned it since new? Is the DME scan for over revs clear?

Again, I'm sorry to hear this bad news.

Miles? If your ex has implants you are entitled to one of them....or she has to pay you off for that one.
That may help a little.

That has to suck. But it strengthens my reasoning to put the money into an extended warranty on my '05 rather than spending two grand to "upgrade" just the IMS bearing.

FWIW, AFAIK, the first 997___S____ was delivered in the USA in Aug2005 as a MY2006.

Sorry to hear of those various problems. Hang in there!

Really doubt that. More like MY 2005 built in 2004 like my Launch Model C2S.

My condolences to the OP - I would hope that PCNA would step up and help out but I wouldn't be holding my breath on that happening.

Thanks for all the condolences. I visited the deceased at lunch.

It is CPO'd, but this is not covered...

Porsche is having a 20% off parts sale until the end of the month (including engines)

Dealer is going to cut me some slack on the labor

Attached are a few picts of the cylinders

Hey man I feel for you. This is the worst engine failure I have seen on a 997. A cracked block that's just nuts!!!

Will they ever be giving you an opinion on how that happened?

I agree. If CPO doesn't cover this kind of major mechanical failure, what does it cover? What is the basis for excluding coverage?

That's pretty sad when an engine with only 55,000 miles goes **** up. Love to see the DME readout on this.
