Default Luggage Racks?

Anyone ever used a non-porsche rack? Looking for simple cross-racks that I can place a weather-proof bag on top of it for a long trip.

It's my understand that the Thule system is actually the source for Porsche's. Good luck with it--and know now that you will seriously impact your mileage due to changing the .cd of the car--and will be introducing a ton of wind noise! But I hear you--you need the space!

i had a rack on our volvo and learned 2 things:
  • get the aero-shaped crossbars to reduce the wind noise (as dan points out)
  • get an aero-shaped container to hold the cargo. the soft ones make a ton of noise and you're using in on a long trip in a car that's not especially quiet to begin with

that said, i wish there were a way we could have a cool trunk mounted rack, but alas.
