What increase in sales? The report is misleading because it takes into account Panamera sales, which for obvious reasons were zero last year. YTD YOY Boxster/Cayman sales are down 50% while 911 and Cayenne are down about 20%. Nevertheless, the Panamera numbers are a surprise, a nice surprise

been introduced still shows that there are buyers making purchases
in the $100k plus car market.
Sales of the 911 may be down this year. However, there are people
who are willing and able to buy a Panamera. This is a good sign.
If Porsche had introduced the Panamera and had only sold 6 to date,
in addition to 911 sales being down, this would be cause for concern.

When a Panamera reaches a dealer's lot, is it considered a sale by Porsche NA' to the dealer?
if this is Porsche NA revenue, much of the Panamera 'sales' may be just filling the inventory pipeline...?

Thank God for the Panamera or PCNA would be in trouble.

The Panamera is selling, perhaps fulfilling a niche or attracting new customers. Question is - will it continue to sell?
The 911 is selling quite a bit less and the Boxster/Cayman is selling very little. I think it follows the state of the economy. Whoever buys a 911 continues to buy albeit a bit less, and those who buy the Boxster/Cayman have drastically diminished. That's too bad, because the Boxster/Cayman are great cars and they should be sought by those who cannot afford an 11 but can afford a Boxster/Cayman.

The "bread and butter" cars are down ,Boxster/Cayman/911. The initial release of a new model to compete in an area not seen by Porsche brings inital good numbers. I doubt the Panamera will post higher numbers the following year, unless a new engine/model is released. The report of the other cars being off, is not good news.

But how much is the Panamera merely cannibalizing the sales of other models?
That any of this is great news or even moderately good news for anyone beyond PCNA and their dealers is a stretch.
At some point the numbers for unit sales can't look so good (without Panamera) - if there are less cars (911) this year. They may not have to "give" them away, but seems like numbers will have to be lower than last year with production cuts - unless they have not cut production?

My thoughts:
1) I can't imagine a newbie getting a Panamera, so I wonder if these 900+ buyers are trading in their P-cars or getting another one for the family?
2) I don't look down my nose at the Boxster/Cayman crowd, and coincidentally know 2 of the 343 buyers, both in Orlando. One of them (Boxster) got rid of an R8 and the other (CaymanS) could write a check for a Ferarri if he wanted to.
3) Best news: maybe my poor old 911S will hold its value a little bit more.

In past months, the sales report has been more granular, i.e., the Boxster and Cayman sales were broken out as were the various 911 flavors. Does anyone have access to the more detailed sales report?
