What diameter pipe are you going with?
Consider that by using a 2 inch pipe or so that you are essentially removing any (most) back pressure that a muffler would introduce. That's not really a good thing.

Again, for purpose of discussion , I believe that the cat offers adequate back pressure and based on aftermarket exhaust design, is the bottle neck in the system.
The greatest gains in HP will be found when upgrading to high flow cats. For the most part, aftermarket cans won't give or take HP. Cats will.
