911...........996 - 997 - 991
Boxster.....986 - 987 - 981?
Looks like my guess may be correct:

Terrific car design, the perfect match of looks with performance, who cares if it comes with Ipod connector! Love it!

That is a fantastic looking car. I do wish it to be the next Boxster, but am confused at the "specks" being in the GT space. It's just too much to be a Boxster. But, if it is I am in. Thanks for the post.

WoW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So much for Porsche will not be able to meet the EPA B.S.
Not only did they wake up . This car will wake up the competition or just blow past them. So much for Tesla
I won tell the wife but I maybe looking at a future Turbo S Replacement or Garage buddy Anyway.
Better get to work I am sure this wont be cheap

You know, about two years ago (could have been more) there was an article by Georg Kacher in Car Magazine that Porsche was exploring a mid-engine model above the 911 and below the Carrera GT. Talk was of 8 cylinder engines, which I remember well, because Kacher said it could be a flat-8 (and I never thought the thing would fit, or, for that matter, make sense over a blown flat-6). Anyway, obviously the 918 has a V8 not a flat-8, but interesting was that they were looking at a model line above the 911. Given this show car has a V8 plus two electic motors, can't see how it is remotely considered as a boxster replacement, rather somethign to go against the Ferrari 458 prehaps. Very exciting.
Would be interested if anyone has seen this car at the show and can comment on its dimensions (ie. is it bigger than a boxster). Tks

I don't mean to stir the pot here with this being my first post, but to me it looks a bit like the old Jaguar XJ 220 supercar... especially from the front 3/4 angle shot and the wheels.

I think you're wrong. Read the article linked in post #10. In addition to the 500 hp V8 it has 3 electric motors developing 218hp. According to Porsche it's mileage can "beat any microcar" and return up to 78mpg when "driven gently".

This is the first set of images I've seen that displays Porsche's vision of using two video cameras to replace the side rear view mirrors. They've hinted at putting these on the 911 in future models. They look pretty cool, and obvioulsy cut down on drag -- I just wonder whether old dogs like me can be retrained to look at a screen (appears to be mounted in center dash unit), rather than outside at the old mirror locations????

That's to say that the hybridization is there to appease the eco crowd. Who is buying a car like this and is going to drive it gently? Only a poseur and that would be a waste, don't you think?
