Best aftermarket street clutch for 05 997S??
I have done some searching of the forum to see if this topic has come up, no luck finding exactly what I am looking for.
For the time being my clutch is fine, but down the road I will want to replace the stock clutch and I am looking for people opinions on clutch replacement. The stock hardware cost is about $600 (Willing to go up for the right setup) so I would like to start with that as my budget not including labor.
I don’t need a race clutch, let’s keep it street and going to give me 20k miles of easy driving with the occasional hard day.
I have an Aasco 13lb flywheel which will get a new insert.

I am not opposed to sticking with stock. If hardware exists in the same price range that would be an upgrade from stock then I figure why not go better.

To my knowledge, you want a better clucth when...
- Stock clutch is made in poor quality or
- HP/Torque are dramatecly increased.
A lighter flywheel makes sence as you will feel it right away. I may even consider a GT3 one instead of an aftermarket.
When I supercharged my prior car they had to put a stronger clutch and it got bothersome at the Bay Area's traffic.

To clarify, the flywheel is already in the car. The friction surface will be refreshed at the time of the clutch replacement, obviously.
My only complaint with my stock clutch at this point, and could be an issue, is that when I launch the car it seems to slip a little. I have only done a hard launch maybe twice and both times it seemed to slip a slightly. But other then that I cant get it to slip. Lighter flywheel will show more tq to the trans and out the wheels but I doubt that the stock clutch cant handle it. I could be wrong. I am going to be doing x51 headers and intake soon. Will also get high flow cats and ecu eventually. Nothing will be increased dramatically.

Do not know if the GT3 is different and or if it would work. I have a 997 clutch and pressure plate with <10K on it. But it a LWFW. If interested I will have the dealer provide %left.
I have the same from a 996GT3.

Personally, I would avoid the GT3 pressure plate because of the pressure you'll have to exert upon day after day. The stock works really well. Lighter flywheels are not always a smart deal either--they can be a little tricky to drive. These cars have so much torque anyway. If you're only getting 20,000 on a clutch you need to figure out what you're doing wrong.

Stick to OEM, OEM Porsche clutch is probably the best street cltuch you can find!

Thanks for the info. I think I'll stick to OEM. I would consider a firm pedal feel as I dont drive the car more then 5 - 6k miles a year. And when I do its not in rush-hour/stop n go traffic.

Oh and Edgy, You are correct sir. Light flywheel allows for RPM to go up quick which means if your not careful you can smoke the clutch.. I am still getting used to it after 1000 miles.

After digging through the service records I found that my clutch is only about 1600 miles old.. So will be a while before I need to look into replacing.
