Default That Smell!!!

Well, I have just turned 4000 miles in my 09 C2S Cab, and that burning smell is just as strong as it was the day I got the car new. The service writer at my dealer says it is the cosmoline that is on the engine, and the smell is normal. Furthermore, he said it could take upt to 10,000 to 15,000 miles for it to completely disappear. What have others experienced with the 997.2?

It never goes away, it lessens but you can never escape it. I've been meaning to get an automatic or on-a-timer exhaust fan for the garage for many many years.

LOL. Yes, I guess. Here's Maybach's perfume "dispenser." I doubt there's cosmoline in it. I'm sure we can get cosmoline though.

23,000 miles on a 997.1 and it still does it - particularly after working up a good lather....
If yours quits after 10 or 15k, you're lucky.

When the air temperature is cold & you are running on summer tires that are hard as hockey pucks your hot mufflers will cook the little bits of rubber that get cast off. Now that is a smell.

I don't understand why people don't love that smell. It smells great.

For some guys maybe because in years past the whole house filled up with stinky hot-car/garage smell because someone left the interior garage door open.

I posted about this earlier this year. I have come to appreciate it. People always assume it is the clutch or brakes or something and it only adds to the issue that it's more potent after a hard drive.

I find nothing about it to appreciate except faulty engeneering. I have never had a car that smelled like this, and I have owned many a sports car. I flat *** out just don't like it.

Geezuz, it's not that bad. Mine smells like i've been burning rubber even after I go to pick up the groceries but it's just the 911 character. I Don't think faulty engineering and Porsche belong in the same sentence.

I guess the car not having any funny smells after driving was not at the top of the engineering requirements list.

When that smell fills my garage my wife gets a cross look on her face because she knows I have been driving the car HARD and therefore not being as cautious as possible. Oh well! It smells less at 15K than it did at 5K that's for sure.......

My car doesn't do that - I wonder if sitting in the dealer lot for 6 months "aired" it out? I sometimes smell the tires - not so much now that they are not new, and sometimes smell a little oil or engine smell like warm hoses, but the cosmoline, I don't think on this car I have noticed it. 5-10 minutes after I park the car, you'd never know it had been driven without touching it's butt - garage smells neutral I'd say.
