The Challenger is a dog...over 4200lbs. The 2011 Shelby is almost 500lbs lighter than the Challenger now. Hell even a 315hp 2010 Mustang GT is almost as quick as a challenger not to mention it will run circles around it on a road course. Forget about it with the 2011 Mustang GT with 412hp and only 3600 lbs.

The Challenger is a joke, if anything is a gimmick it's that car - built on a shortened Charger chassis, huge weight, absolutely numb road feel - and boring all around. Also it's so big that when you park it you might as well be driving an expedition. Nyca you have no taste, sorry.

That's only 400lbs more than a 997S with PDK and with 30 more horsepower. Oh and not to mention 80lb/ft more torque at a lower rpm. Power to weight ratio is going to be very similar. Remember we are talking about a car that fully loaded can be had for $36k with a 6 spd. manual. The weight is right where an E92 M3 is at.

Have mercy! Let's all take a break from the Mustang threads and re-start the Corvette threads.

so it is as much of a pig as M3. These cars do not compete for the same space. Why bother to try? One group of cars carry 4-5 people burn rubber and go fast on the highway. The P-car carries two people and go fast in more places. 3600 pounds is 600 pound more than my pig of a car.

Z06 or Z51?
Personally I'd like to see more threads about the GT-R as well.

Is that the Skyline R34? I understand they were extremely fast in Japan, and the motors were bulletproof.

Seems there was a lot of dissapointment with the new GTR as far as the mods go, my understanding is due to the technology it almost impossible to add boost and tweak the motor which is a real shame considering it's a twin turbo V6. I also understand that the transmission is not very strong, in fact if you use the launch control - Nissan voids the warranty and a replacement is upwards of $16,000.

Looks like a Honda with a bodykit, I never cared for Japanese cars, no soul, fanboy playstation cult following, and just lacking style.

Actually, almost all the GT-Rs.. starting from the ones from the 60s.. (hence "pedigree"!) all the way up to the R34.. (in various type of racing) R33 were in LeMans in the GT-1 class (competing w/ the big dogs like the McLaren F-1 GTR LM) for a few years and did well..

Regarding the issues w/ the R35.. I think that's not quite true.. while the intention was for them to be not mod-friendly, but I think aftermarket is always one step ahead. There are many modded R35 out there putting down a lot of power. But of course the aftermarket isn't quite as large compare to the old engine (since the RB26DETT was around for a long time (R32/R33/R34) while the new engine is brand new. Wouldn't be surprised if that catch up eventually.

I think most of the problem regarding the tranny is probably due to abuse. I think if we take a 911 turbo (manual) and rev to 5,500rpm and drop the clutch, and do it 50x. Wouldn't be surprised if there would be some tranny issue too.

Obviously, it is not everyone's cup of tea.. I voted w/ my money so I have a 911, but I like the GT-R just fine and do respect the car..

well, the last GT 500 i saw at the track was last january at sebring in an advanced run group ...it was a dog...appeared very heavy and difficult in the twisties. i think i may have lapped him once....pretty car though and love the sound of that supercharger... i bet with the stock brakes and the weight of the vehicle that fade issues would be very apparent after a couple of laps...

The stock GT500 suspension is pitiful, no doubt about it, also forced induction is prone to heat soak, so 10 minutes on the track and you can be robbed of power. Shelby/Revan Racing has cooling products to address this and the aftermarket for this car is enormous.

The GT500 is not track ready out of the box (apart from the 2011 with SVT Package). The idea behind it is you get a very stout engine capable of 1000 hp and a solid platform to work from with limited money. That's what drew me in anyway. 47k MSRP and then 7-10k for a blower swap, good suspension, and tires and you have a 700-900 hp monster.

As for the brakes it comes stock with Brembos so brake fade shouldn't be much of an issue, maybe a carbon compound pad could be swapped in but other than that they are solid.

Well sure its heavy - its essentially a W210 E Class, you know - a real car, made by the Germans - the best carmakers in the world. There is more to a car like this then driving as fast as possible in a straight line, unless you bracket race in the NHRA - how often do owners do that?
