Different strokes for different folks.

Take a step back everyone and realize this is a guy who has both Mustang and a Porsche. HE sees something good in both of them. He is posting about another sports car and not something that is clearly off topic like politics. Frankly, my feeling is that if a particular forum is your 'home' forum, then there is even more latitude when it comes to posting OT like material.

Now, all that being said, I think you'll find more interest in a car like a Shelby Mustang in other car forums.

What's "elitist" about a Nissan? You are pimping overweight Fords on a Porsche board...the mock surprise is disingenuous (or you're simply not too bright).

BTW, Nissan licensed the block technology from Ford for the GTR. The Al. block in the GT500 has a new material lining technology that is the best out there. That is why Nissan wanted to use this on their GTR.

You guys can't compare a Mustang from earlier time periods. The new Stang is light years ahead of the Fox bodied or SN9X series of stangs.

Do I think the GT500 is in the same league as a 997...no of course not. I too have owned both. I will say this though it would take a race car driver to eek out the benefits of a 997S over a GT500 on a road course. The new GT500 is going to be awesome even on the twisties with the new package that is out there. Also the new interior is much better than what it was.

Just a word of caution..you may be able to take a GT500 from the dig as he is going to have a hard time hooking up that power, but from a roll prepare for a royal **** raping unless you own a 600hp 997TT, a car that is more 2.5 times the cost of a GT500.

Para82...its not just these guys that can be elitist. If I had a nickel everytime I was told to take my "Eurotrash" car and go to hell on SVT Performance and some other Mustang websties, I wouldn't have to worry about making the payment on my Speed Yellow Beauty.

Obviously Ford's meant to do just what you posted... one drag race at a time!

They won the Grand Am Koni Challenge 3 out of the last 5 years including last year...so a couple of those Mustang guys would disagree with you.

We are all car guys, so some people need to lighten up a bit . It's not like he's discussing a Ford Pinto!

Obviously not stock...

I actually LOVE the old Mustangs of the 60s, and don't bash cars for no reasons, but we all know in general American muscle cars are built and meant to do one thing, straight line drag racing, which is what MANY PEOPLE WANT, and there's nothing wrong with it.

At pretty much EVERY event I've been to, the only cars that did a 180 and got off the road were Mustangs. I remember last year in Bremerton, we pretty much all camped out at the last turn of the track, waiting for the Mustangs to go off... and out of the four who were out there, ALL FOUR spun out at least once, and two spun out three times!

They've come a long way, no doubt, but they're still not even close in handling to Porsches and most other German cars... value for money, I agree, you get a lot of car for the dollar!

A 2010 Roush Stage 3 car will run circles around the GT500 in both a straight line as well as a road course.

I would pay to see that, my GT500 has a Griggs Racing suspension which has been embarrassing Porsche owners for quite some time. Look it up.

Also can a Roush Stage 3 be tuned up to 800 hp and handle it no problem like a Shelby?

I think you forget the MASSIVE potential of the Shelby engine as opposed to these tuners.

Do you have a Stage 3 you can bring along? We can all have a hoe down.

You're missing the point. A 2010 Roush Stage 3 car with a Griggs suspension would run circles around the GT500 with the same Griggs suspension. The comparison is between stock powerplants in the same chassis.

I agree with everything you said except the part about not being able to handle as well as most other German cars. Do they handle as well as Porsches off the assembly line? Not even close. Do they handle as well as BMW, Audi, Mercedes, absolutely. My friend's BMW 335i was nice, but it didn't outhandle my cheap 2005 Mustang GT I owned not too long ago.

I have only driven S197 Mustangs so I don't know what these 80's/90's mustangs are like but by all accounts they sound god awful.

How many 997 owners here have driven a high performance late model Mustang?

Enlighten me on the 2010 Roush Stage 3 Mustang. Did Roush do some serious weight reduction?
