Question 997 "Valet" (Spare Key) in depth question... regarding 997.2

from this thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...key-photo.html

***EDIT, Notice 2nd Post***

-Called 2 local dealers, both say the part # does NOT come up under 997.2

-when i had a 997.1, i ordered a second keyfob and they gave me a 997.2 FOB... so im guessing both cars use the same setup... and the keys should work backwards/forwards as long as cut and programmed properly?

-how could i go about ordering this key? could they order it for an 08 but input my vin to make sure its cut properly? i think to program you put it in the car and program it that way right?

can anyone help me in this matter? i tried calling the dealer that ordered my old spare key but they are unsure how to make this work..

edit: just got call back from the dealer that ordered my 997.1 key and he said he could probably trick the system and order an 06 key, but once it comes have it cut and programmed to my 09 and it should work...

price was only around $50 plus shipping and should only take 2 days to get it in..

once i see that it works, if anyone wants a key let me know and ill fwd the info...

i noticed a few people interested in last thread so just post below and ill fwd info to you once we confirm it works.

I'd JUMP on this - a couple of years ago my dealer (Indianapolis) quoted me $360 !!

ill fwd you info once i check that it works right...

the dealer i called for the key is a dealer where a close friend of mine used to work.. so whatever the cost is in the computer is what he tells me to pay... I'm sure he will share the same price with friends i send there way.....

~50$ is where it should be, given its a plastic key.. i had alotted up to $100 because i feel with the chip inside to start the car 100 was a fair price.. when he said ~50 i was shocked and said, go for it..

hopefully it works.. he said the cutting isnt a problem, they just order it for an 06 but supply the 09 vin and it cuts it properly.. the programming is something you do after the fact, you put it in the car and do something so hopefully that works.

I have a recent quote from Porsche of Newport for $365 to replace a key fob.

This is along the same lines as the $600 oil change..

They should just come up with an iPhone app for that!

well the plastic key is not a keyfob... when i had to get a full replacement key for my 997.1 i think the total was like 250-300... for the metal, having it cut, the fob and programming.

Would love to hear if the $50 stays at that. Would be the cheapest part on a 997!

I wonder if they would work on a 996? Probably have to order for a 997, then "trick it" like you said. I didn't even know they made these.

Spare keys are good. Keys are PITA to replace.

BTW, it is not a valet key. It is a spare key without the transmitter for door and trunk locks (and windows?).
