Why would anyone think a 911 is good in the snow?

I still remember the day when my S4 wouldn't move on a wet dirt road with Pilot Sports. Quattro Schmattro.

Nokian WRs on the C4S are the cats pajamas in snow.

I have absolutely no problems and drive with great confidence in the snow- I decided not to go with formal snow tires on the c2s and bought the optional porsche "winter package" instead-
When you're ordering select the option box for the Ford Explorer

I don't think this is an equipment issue. I think the problem is User Error and that might be a nice way of putting it

Tires.

PS2's below 37 degrees are like leather soled wingtip dress shoes on ice.

Want to be amazed? Put a set of studless Ice and Snow tires on a cheap set of rims and shoe your 911 with those.

It'll grip like a tracked vehicle.

There's definitely an issue with "operator headspace." When properly equipped, the 911 is quite outstanding in the snow. I drove a 911 as a daily driver in Germany through winters, etc. Today's true snowtires (with the snowflake on the sidewall of the tire) are first rate in traction. The inherently wide tires found on a 911's rear end are not good if they're not equipped for dealing with that snow. I've driven through blizzards with a 911, and they perform as well or better than specialty cars for that purpose.

I'm sure the question was posed with tongue in cheek.

My two cents? My GF had one of the old rear-engined VW Beetles while we were in school in the North East. Baaad winters. That car would go thru anything!

Herr Doktor Porsche's rear-engined invention taught us to laugh at the 14 different kinds of snow.

The OP is just trolling. Why does anyone bother answering him?

I don't know. He might not be trolling too. Who really knows people's motivations?

OTOH, it spurs the rest of us to interact which is fun.

WTF? I was in L.A. yesterday, and I don't recall seeing any snow in Brentwood. Are your jerking our chains? Anyway, my C4 is literally one of the cars in the Porsche 2007 Camp4 winter driving video promo. It drives just fine in moderate snow with Michelin PA2's, thank you, though I mostly keep it garaged in winter to avoid the mag chloride CDOT pours all over our roads.

For those of you saying "porsches are great in the snow," are you guys talking about C4S with snow tires? ...because I got news for you, all 4wd cars with snow tires are great in the snow.

And all sports cars with performance warm weather tires are crap on packed snow and ice or very cold wet roads. Thats no news either. Should we be surprised?

Colorado had a decent snow yesterday and today. I had to run some errands so took the Range Rover with Pirelli snows all around. It performed as expected. Then, for grins and giggles, I took the C2S with PZero's around the neighborhood on plowed but snowpacked roads. For the worriers, I live out in the country so no animals or bushes were harmed during my stunts.

I made it up all the hills and around all the corners. Sure, it was slick and I could feel the traction control working but the 997 didn't come to a stop like my Jag does when the brakes are applied to the spinning wheel. I held some pretty decent drifts and stayed out of the ditches.

As far as snow driving philosophy goes, I always remember the quote attributed to AJ Foyt: "When in doubt, floor it. It might not solve the problem, but it'll damn sure end the suspense."
