$600 for first oil change!
I stopped by Rietzl Porsche in Norwell, MA to inquire about getting my first oil change. My 2009 C2S CAB only has 2500 miles, but is coming up on a year of ownership in March.
When the service guy told me it would be $600 I was both shocked and insulted. I called a couple other local Porsche dealers in my area, both quoted mid $300's for the SAME service. I called Rietzl back pretty upset and asked them how they could charge me $600 when other dealers are about half of that price, unless it's just Rietzl's standard practice to RIP OFF their customers. Their response to me was, the service took 3 hours and the labor rate was about $180 an hour, so the price is $600 and if anyone is doing it for less they are losing money.
Wow, it's always easy to spot struggling dealerships. In their short sighted desperation they gouge their customers with ridiculously high service charges that ensure the customer will never return.

3 hours? Did all the mechanics arrive at work on a LITTLE BUS or something? I do it myself (which does not jeopardize the warranty, by the way) in about 30 minutes.

The question is: why only 2500 miles in a year?
If that continues the car may exit warranty with 10000 miles, and without showing problems that should be covered by warranty. PAG loves you as a customer.

The only reason porsche can get away with that is because a lot of their clients can afford it and don't care about the hastles involved in going to "lesser" shops.
As I said in a previous post, the local porsche dealer quoted me $7k to replace 2 cats. There is some 40% mark-up on that job.
If I am doing engine repairs or anything really technical, I'd rather leave it to the dealer. But if it's simple things like changing oil, I don't see why the local private Porsche service shop can't do the job...

I actually let the oil drain for about 30 minutes which extends the time to about 45 total but the point is the same; 3 hours is ridiculous.

I agree, but last Spring & Summer were much colder than usual, I have 2 other cars as my primary drivers, and spend about half of every month teaching SCUBA Diving & spearfishing in Cozumel. If I still lived in Corona del Mar things would be much different.

It's a lot like independent tire shops compared to us. I'll take to my grave the wonderment as to why some shops will knowingly turn down business and make nothing on most so that they can turn around overcharge others. Evidently the "shafting" method of doing business has enough benefit that they still make a profit on the few that for some reason agree to it.
I have an idea!
How about charging everyone reasonable prices for the product, decent labor rates, and watching overhead. And then trying to HANDLE the business that gets them? Right?
Right?
Man, people are SO tired of being taken advantage of. I have people get so angry with the last guy they got a quote from because we are half price for the same tire that they yell at ME because they think I am trying to stiff them somehow, too. Dealers and shops need to realize people are savvy nowadays and shop around. In the end they just shoot themselves in the foot.....

My local South Bay Area (CA) dealers charge $169-189 for a 997.2 oil change and also offer to do a "free inspection" each time you bring your car in for service.
