I'm not even saying that. Just that they couldn't appeal to more different demographics. At the end of the day, I don't care what you say, the build quality on a stang couldn't hold a candle to any german built automobile and resale and reliability will reflect that. All that said, they're a hell of a good time and a great looking car for the money.

Apologies you are correct ... I did misunderstand your point entirely! - rereading I see that in fact we were making the same point!

Glad to see we are in agreement!

These "you must admit this/my car is better than yours" arguments are so pointless ...

So, I know a little something about mustangs, and I haven't seen a Shelby mustang smack the **** out of anything lately.

The factory Ford mustangs, on the other hand, are doing great in motorsports.
I am with you. I am an long time mustang guy and owned a new 87' GT, 02' Roush 360R and just sold my 08' Roush P51A. That car was a monster w/ about 570hp and 570 tq after the updated Roush Tune. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3180767/1. I drove Shelby GT500s and the Roushes have it all over them. To the point of this GT350 or even my P51 "bitch slapping" a Carrera is outrageous. My Roush was worked to the bone by ROush from top to bottom and it was still in a different league than my 911S. No comparison, other than in brute straight line acceleration. I became so Jaded w/ the 911 overall, that a car I said I would never sell, I sold in a minute. You can't compare Mustangs to 911s, simply another world another level. One reference was made to the grand am or koni series. That is not a proper comparison, we are comparing street / stock machines to the general public, not factory worked race cars.

Only an American car topic would result in such a "polarized" conversation. I personally would never drive one either, mainly as a result of the "stigma" that such cars carry (i.e., vettes, mustangs, z28 IROCS, etc). I'd also never drive a mini-van...does that make me a "family" hater? nope. It's just all personal preference.

Well the 911 and Shelby are awesome in my book. I wasn't trying to compare these two cars, just showing off Shelby's latest work. Results not surprising.

I dont care what others think here or the "stigma" associated with these cars, I actually really like the look of the GT350 (quite a bit). I'd actually be interested in getting one (you get a lot for the price). Given that I'm in So Cal, I'd be interested in going to check one out. I wouldn't trade the 997 in for it but it may be a fun car to have.

I hate to see what kind of above window sticker price the dealers will tack on. The Ford dealer in town put a "market adjustment" mark up of 25K on 2 Mustang GT500's he had. Cars sat for a long time. Salesman told me that someone offered to pay window sticker price and was turned down.

I was initially interested in a '09 GT500 before my 997. My local Ford dealer told me there was going to be a "market adjustment" cost increase over MSRP though. I told him forget it, and that I'd only pay up to MSRP. A week later he emailed me back saying I could have it for MSRP.

The way the economy is right now, I'd be very surprised to see anyone pay over MSRP.

A lot of dealers were marking them way up in 2007/08 and people were paying it. My dealer's window sticker displayed a "5k market adjustment" , and after showing that I was willing to walk out the door it all of a sudden became MSRP, but that was May 2008 and dealers were hurting.

I doubt you will see another markup on a Shelby for a long time...

The demand for theShelby GT500 was also huge, the first 2007 Shelby GT500 to role off the assembly line fetched $600,000 at Barrett Jackson.

Yah the Shelby resale value is actually higher than the Porsche so not really a good way to prove your point. I do agree that the Porsche build quality is much better, but resale doesn't seem so good, I paid less than half of original MSRP for an 05 997S loaded car including PCCB with 10,038 miles.

A 2007 GT500 which retails 47k can be had used for 38-42k. Resale is quite good.

Really... I'm having a hard time reconciling your statement above with this quote from page one of this thread:

"If you knew anything about cars you would know that Shelby takes the factory car and turns into a purebred racecar which would annihilate 911 like it was a VW bitch."

Just cause a car is "faster", does not mean it annihilites the slower car, as you said in another response. Curious on it's 0-60. The mags are getting the 997.2 C2S under 4 sec, like 3.8. What is the Shelby's, it's like 4.3 isn't it? Even if it was 3.4, on a track the 911 would take it, cause it will be outhandled. I just came out of a Roush P51A, which IMO is superior to a Shelby 500, I drove the Shelby's before. My S outhandles the Roush and the Roush was a serious machine. Here is a link on it's info, it was worked to the bone. http://www.roushperformance.com/mustang_p51.shtml
As far as acceleration, w/ around 550hp and 550tq (after the upgraded Roush tune I installed) it still will not take the S in straight line, cause it can't put the power to the road like a 911 can. Bottom line, Mustangs are a fun great american muscle car, but comparing one to a 911 is apples and oranges. It is not on the same level.
