No, it's the most useless thing ever and I'm actually a little bit embarrassed for Porsche that they even sell the stupid thing.

If you get a PDK car, Sport Chrono is mandatory. If you get a manual car, Sport Chrono is worse than useless. For either transmission you'll never use the timing feature. It is impossible to get accurate lap times from the Sport Chrono because it requires you to physically flip the control lever each time you cross the "finish" line. Not even rainman can do that consistently enough to yield useful times.

It gives you something to talk about, however. Passengers get in, and say "is that a clock?", then I say "no, it's a stupid stopwatch wart thing." then I run it a bit, then reset it so they can see the hands swing back to zero. They then roll their eyes and think "whatever!".

I bought my car off the lot. I would never have orderd a car with it. I have not used it yet but it does allow you to adjust some settings for the car through the stalks ( I understand!). The dealer seemed it was impotant for re-sale like Bose and Nav.....whatever.

You can pry it right out, (it snaps into the dash, no screws) take the clock out of the bezel , wrap it in bubble wrap, stuff it in the dash, then put a custom leather cover over it.

If somebody sold a nice matching leather covers I'd have certainly done it by now.

Meanwhile I use it to time my commute (average speed 34mph). I like to shave seconds off of the record 32:15:01 drive.

Mine came w/ the option, since I did not order this car, i bought it out of inventory. It is a cool "conversation piece" and you actually can feel the difference w/ the throttle mapping. If you keep your foot steady on the pedal and shut the feature off, you will feel the rpms drop. It makes the throttle more responsive for sure. Would I order it, I think so, cause I am a bells and whistle type of guy w/ my toy cars. lol

Once again that just proves how little the dealers (salesmen) know about these cars and the enthusiasts who buy them!

Well..., it's kind of true, I think. I'm guessing most guys who buy them aren't as into it as we boarders are. They learn "SC and Bose is better," and that directs their search. Selling cars always benefits from a few slick marketing tactics I guess.

The more aggressive throttle map is good for timid drivers who need an instant lead foot; so there's some value in it.

It's concept is great.
The colored circles that appear on the PCM indicating faster, slower, same lap times just in your peripheral is great.

It's human interface to use is terrible.
Two clicks of the stalk for each lap to record, miss one, your done.
Your just too busy on track to implement.

If only it were triggered via a beacon it would be superb, but that is not the case.

It's just a useless wart on the dash that does nothing. At least the
Panamera Chrono doubles as a clock in it's digital display.

It's just a dumb thing.

Any ideas?

Too bad we have them because it's easy and fun to accuse it of being poser equipment.

i once told a co-worker it was a german clock, they spent the good part of the drive trying to figure out how to tell time on it

Needless to say i could't keep a straight face after 10 min and told her what it was........but she still didn't get it
