My 997.2 has two-tone full leather interior, but as you all know, the PDK shift trim is plastic (for the car this price, everything should have been in premium leather). So I decided to upgrade it to the leather PDK trim. I bought it from Suncoast and was very surprised when I was told that there was ONE from the Porsche Parts Depot in Atlanta (these are usually custom ordered and would take 6 to 8 weeks to order). Aaron was able to secure the only one in the depot for me (thanks Aaron - you rock!) I placed the order on Thursday last week and the part came in this afternoon! It took about 35 minutes to swap out because I was being extra careful to not scratch anything else around the area.

It looks so much nicer now, and matches the radio surround trims. I love the double contrast stitching around the trim.

Now to complete the job you just need to order the full console in stitched leather and select, either the embossed badge or model accessory cover, also in stitched leather. Then your full console will be complete. like this:

$349 for the PDK shift trim. The radio surround trims came with the car.

 

Yeah. Porsche full leather is anything but. To be full leather it's a long list of expensive options. To replace the ugly volcano gray backs of the sports seats is a whopping $1.9k.

You did well with the gear lever leather trim. It looks great!

Yeah, I have full leather in mine too. The shift trim would be a nice upgrade for not an outrageous price. I have cocoa leather; wonder if the price varies with color? Guess I'll call Suncoast. What's involved in the install?

 

Very nice mod! I am also saving my pennies so that I can eventually switch the shift trim and center console for full leather.

 

Thanks for the kind words, guys. It's one of the easiest interior upgrades that you can do.

 

You basically have to remove the shift **** in order to remove the trim.

1. Put gear shifter in N or D position
2. Remove two (2) Torx-25 bolts hidden under the carpet pile on both driver and passenger side and remove the small carpet-covered side covers
3. Remove two (2) Torx-20 screws securing the radio surround trims on each side
4. Gently unlatch the radio surround trims by pushing it towards the rear of the car
5. Use a trim tool (got mine from eBay) and gently pry up the trim from its base (silver color). Pry it straight up (see the pic below for location of clips)
6. Remove the trim. I find it easier to first unlatch the rear of the trim (the part pointing to the trunk of the car) and pivot it toward the floor, then carefully slide the trim towards you and out of the shifter.
7. Install the leather trim and put everything back in reverse. Make sure the trim sits flush with the base and the clips engage tightly (or you'll have rattles - ask me how I know )

Make sure you put masking tape on the base (below the trim), the radio surround trims, and center console to protect them from scratches or mishaps.

The picture below shows the location of the plastic clips on the trim.




Trim tools on eBay (search for "trim tool"). I paid $15 for mine.

 

That really does look much better. Great decision.

 

As someone else who sprang for the "full" leather interior only to realize that there are several places like this where Porsche is chintzy... I applaud you. The change looks great and will undoubtedly make you happy every time you get in the car.
