Default E92 M3 vs. 997.2 C2S Dyno Plots

Hi All,

My buddy and I were out Thursday night and we got in a debate over who's car would put out better dyno numbers. He has an '08 E92 M3 coupe and I have a '09 997.2 C2S. I'll cut to the chase, the 997.2 C2S was the faster car by about 20hp.

This was done on a Dyno Dynamics, which reads very low. The M3 numbers seem low but keep in mind we calibrated the dyno accoring to a post on an M3 forum and did 2 runs of 3 pulls each. We had an M5 in last week that was putting out only about 380 or so, and they're rated at 500hp, so it seems to be in line with what we're seeing.

I am not trying to start a flamewar or anything, this is just for fun and I haven't seen a 997.2 dyno graph yet. Just as an FYI, if anyone brings their 997.2 on a dyno, be sure to have a code reader as the wheel speed sensor freaks out afterwards.

Final numbers:

C2S = 309HP
M3 = 289HP

interesting that the m's torque # was lower than the p's. I've seen see higher w/ in the past.

Go to the M3 forums and you'll see that clearly the M3 > 997

look at the "ring" lap times and you will see the e92 m3 is slower than either version of the 997s. btw the cayman s is even further back. real times by real drivers

Yes it's a 15 second chasm between the 997S and the M3 on the 'ring.

Wow, I always thought the M3 had a better laptime. Looks like its a huge gap. Cool stuff!

I think part of what hurts M3 is that the brakes suck - heat up quickly and useless after a short while.

bmw brakes do suck, one of the main reasons i bought a p car. have an e46 m3....trashed the brakes in less than 30 minutes at vir the first time i took it to the track. weight is also a major contributing factor in the gross lack of brakes. even did the competition pkg upgrade and they are still subpar for this class of car. fyi, i use ap551 fluid, pf01 pads or pagid yellows, not running r compound tires, and still do not have enough brake to activate abs on the back straight after 3 laps. brakes on my e30 m3 race car are far superior for their application. bmw technology advanced everywhere except inside the wheels

That's surprising to hear - the calipers/rotors look pretty beefy and you upgraded the pads.

Does anyone else have 997.2 dyno plots? I *can't* be the only idiot with one!
