Default 997S w/ sunroof audibly "creaks" when car flexes?

My neighbor has an '06 997S with 19k miles. He had me drive it tonight to see what I thought about the "creaking" noise the car makes when flexing (entering a driveway, going over speedbump, etc.). I was pretty surprised with how loud the noise was...definitely sounded like coming from the roof (reminded me of what my knees sound like when I get up from a chair!).

Since I have the Cab, I can't compare--but, this doesn't seem normal to me. Any feedback from coupe/sunroof folks with whether they hear their cars make noise as it flexes?
(No accidents with his car, by the way).

Side note: I just had B&M short-shifter installed. WOW!!! Love it!!! A meaningful mod...

Clearly the only rational solution is to trade it in for a new GT3 -- no sunroof!

Very ofter 997s creak like that. The reason is the flex especially from the rear because of the weight of the engine that stresses the chassis. However it is nothing to worry about.

Most times its not from the sunroof but from the rear windscreen flexing in its metal frame.

In both cases the quick solution is spray silicone around the glass around the edges. Same for the sunroof.

Possibly strut tower brace(s) may help reduce some of the flex & noises.

Both of my 997S coupes make that noise. Very disappointing to me. I had three previous e46 M3s, and none of them made the flexing noises that my 997S do.

I have a pretty steep driveway curb, and mine (06) does it. I'll try the silicone suggestion around the window, but I thought it was the sunroof as well.
Disappointing, since my last toy was a SC430 with a full retactable roof, and it didn't creak going up and down the same curb, even with all those panels, and what I would assume to be less rigidity.

lol, this reminds me of my first new car (87' Mustang GT) it of course had "T-Tops" which rattled and creaked as did on all the TAs and IROCs. You wouldnt expect a Porsche to do it, but as stated above, keeping the edges and surrounding rubber lubricated, does the trick.

Why did you opt for the B & M, I went w/ the Porsche short throw and I agree that it is night and day. I would say half the throw distance of stock.

It is the sunroof. Stand outside the car with the sunroof closed and push down on the panel. You will hear the noise. If anyone has solved this problem, please respond. I have tried various lubricants with only short term fix at best. Very annoying problem.

I think time is on your side. Mine creaked - made me very annoyed until I just got used to it. How do I know I got used to it? Because it disappeared. It no longer creaks! I think it just wore out the surfaces which were perfect for making the creaking sound.

Yes, I was probably very lucky it went away by itself. Maybe you'll have the same luck.

Mine seemed to come from right rear tire well and window area.

I've never been in a 997 that didn't have "sunroof squeak". Google "sunroof squeak" and you'll find people with every car made complaining about it. Just the nature of the beast with a stiff suspension, stiff sidewall tires, and a hole in the roof. These cars don't need a front strut brace, the car is already wicked stiff. As with most squeaks, probably just needs some silicone lube.

I would be careful about using silicone lube. Sometimes it solves the problem. Other times it makes it worse.

Not necessary for the 997, nor will it help that area.
