I don't know. Porsche Service techs would know. Call and ask them. They're supposed to help us owners if they can. If one service place "stonewalls" you, call another in a different state, why not? BTW, There's no guarantee pulling the battery "resets" anything. We're just guessing. It's something easy you can try. It might fix what's going on, it's very unlikely anything terrible will happen. Assuming the car's not totally messed up, pulling the battery isn't a big deal. Follow manual instructions though.

ummm... I think the closest are Dallas or Nashville, so it would be about a six hour drive.

When I tried to find one to buy I only found 2 911's in all of arkansas. one was a 996 that was overpriced, and one was a 10yr 996 that was older than I wanted to buy. Yes Arkansas is very Porsche deprived, but that's ok, I'd prefer to be one of the few in the state driving one than one of the 50 mustangs, corvettes, or 350z's I see on a daily basis.

Do you have local PCA branch? They should have web site, on web site they should have list of folks who do car inspections for DE - call or email them. If they have they own Porsche shops they may be more helpful to you than dealers.

Springfield MO has a Porsche dealership. That's located just north of Arkansas state line towards the western side of the state. There's a nice Porsche dealership in Merriam KS (just south of KC MO on I-35. I bought my 02 Boxster from this dealer.)

There several dealerships in Texas: Two in Dallas (actually I think one in Dallas and one in Plano) and one in Ft Worth and at least one in Houston.

There's a Porsche dealership in Wichita KS (which has (had anyhow) a very good sevice department though it has been 5 years since I had my Boxster there (for a busted radiator repair after hitting road debris).

I do not know what Porsche dealerships might be east or southeast of your location.

Sincerely,

Macster.

That is unfortunate. But changing the oil in this car is so easy that I do it instead of the dealership $$ experience. But if it was a local shop, it would be a no brainer, never never never! DYI.

on the 997 engines, does the engine have to be warm for the display to be accurate like the aircooled cars? thanks

For 997.1 engines--no. The manual simply states that the vehicle be horizontal, engine off, with ignition on. Measuring the 997.2 engines is more like with the air-cooled engines.

997.2 will only go through the minute measurement process if the engine is warm, stationary and running.

The original question deals with a 2005 Carrera. Suggest we not confuse him with 997.2 stuff.
