Default 09 997 vs CPO 07 997 S

Well am back again and my dealer just got in a nicely optioned 07 997 S (maybe its an 06 gotta see it again) with 21k miles, PASM, Chrono, factory black wheels, sports leather seats, sport wheel, carbon fiber interior trim, 6ps, PSE to name a few options. Also has a 09 PDK car base Carrera without any of the above options; pretty basic car Bose, heated seats/steering and auto dim mirros (was one of the initial PDK demos) with about 600 miles on it. Wants $79k for this one. No price on the other car. Both are white vehicles; which is 3rd or 4th on my color choices under silver, gray, black.

Any thoughts on fair price for the each? Any advantages of the PDK car which is a stripper vs the loaded S other than PDK? Am gonna loose on my trade as I have an 09 Boxster (see my prev post) which I just haven't been able to get the feel off and really enjoy. Its a nice care and a great driver but just doesn't feel as challenged in it or as comfortable and complete as I did with my previous 05 997 Carrera (base) which I sold in March. Anyway looking to get back into the fold so to speak possibly...thoughts?

I'd say get the 07 CPOed at a good discount, IF, you do not have the bug of driving 997.2 and PDK.

Since you've had a 997 in the past, I am not sure how big a deal it is to try 997.2, and how much are those options worth to you. Most options are not worth much in pre-owned market as when it was new, so usually you can get a much better optioned pre-owned.

I agree with Alexb76. I'd prefer a nicely optioned 997.1 to a newer stripped down 997.2, unless I had to have PDK. I prefer stick. While the PCM interface is so much better on the 997.2, I don't think it would offset the other options I like, since I don't try to talk on the phone in the car, and don't listen to my iPod that much. Nor do I use Nav very much. I'm looking for another 997, and I'll be quite satisfied sticking with a nice 997.1 again, especially if it is CPO'd.

hmm good food for thought. I do use things like Sat radio and nav which I do agree the new PCM 3.0 does pretty well. But there are work arounds to that for less $$ (see previous posts! LOL).

Yes, a Garmin is pretty cheap these days due to competition from PDA's, and a Dension gives you good sound quality for your iPod. For well under $1000 you can be looked after. I had a portable XM Roady2 and iPod in my Targa, connected to the Dension. On long trips, I used my Garmin more than the factory Nav due to easier user interface. Plus I love selecting the voice of an Australian woman.

Thats a ridiculous statement. No way big time.

We are taking about a stripper PDK car and when you start searching some posts on PDK cars you start realizing that most PDK buyers would not have a PDK car without the sports chrono option and thats what you have here.

Getting the PDK especially without the S/C is a mistake. And if you want to be challanged why consider a PDK at all. You will be bored quickly.

BTW.....the 79K asking price is way out of line for the launch 997.2 Closer to 71-72K. If you really do want to consdier it.

Yeah neighboring dealer has same car for the most part 09, min option PDK Carrera base of $72k! So I think my dealer would need to come down to at least that price or less. Has two 07 and 08 Carrera S also but they are auto/tiptronic so he can keep those! LOL Haven't driven PDK but have driven DCT in the M3 and it IS very good! Would also let wife be at least able to drive the car...only question would be IF sport chrono could be added to the 09 and PSE also. Can't add PASM post factory right? I agree on the Nav issue...my 09 Boxster I put a pioneer double DIN unit in the car using factory OEM bezel and mount (from Suncoast Porsche) and sat radio, nav and bluetooth all for $1000 and OEM look. Much better option than PCM 3.0 w/Nav for $4k although I DO like PCM 3.0 in the wife's Cayenne S! LOL

What would be a fair price for the 07 CPO 997S mentioned?

Does the 997.2 have NAV and SAT? You didn't mention if it did.

I actually like my PCM, it looks "old school", but actually works very well and has helped me a ton in long distance travel (was more accurate than friend's Garmin!). PCM 3.0 could only be better.

I am not defending the suggested price. My statement is far from ridiculous. An '09 Carrera is a better car than a 997.1S. Better engine, chassis, and suspension. The PDK is icing on the cake.

BTW... my car has PDK and I am not bored, quite the opposite.

I think SAT NO nav. That can be added to PCM 3.0 but the module is a few grand I think.

What did they do to revise the chassis?

The suspension (especially the front) was redesigned.

Navigation cannot be added to the 09 cars if not equipped that way from the factory.

Porsche dealers throughout the USA have had trouble moving the 09 PDK launch cars because, in my opinion, they screwed up. Two important options were left off which has made those cars virtually unsaleable. First, the performance of the PDK is vastly improved with the Sports Chrono. Second, Porsche made a big deal about the "new improved" navigation system based upon a solid state memory. But they left it off the launch cars. Dumb. And unretrofitable. Either get them to give you a really good deal or wait a little longer for another car.

Thanks...didn't know that. I can swear they said it could to PCM 3.0 cars. I have seen PCM 2.1 cars selliing a NAV upgrade on Suncoast I believe too. Can u explain this aspect some more?
