New infant on the way. Do I need to sell my 997?
Our second is due in July. I've read that a infant rear facing seat does not fit in the rear. I have an '06 997 supposedly with the airbag off system but I don't think you can put an infant in the front seat in California. What have other's done to remedy this situation. My 5 yr old currently sits in the back with a booster and no issues. Am I going to have to sell my car and wait until the new little one turns 3 to hopefully acquire another P-car? Help please.

I think you can put the carseat in the front as long as you can manualy deactivate the airbag. I live in ca and we have fronds with tt and an infant seat. Don't sell. Worst case you have to hold off driving with both kids for a year untill #2 can face forward in the back.

I am sure you do plenty of trips with just yourself in the car, so why not get another car?
Just lease something for 3 years! You can lease an entry-level sedan for less than $200/month! In fact, go get a used lease from a place like swapalease.com. For instance, take a look at this brand new Nissan Maxima, which has plenty of room for even more babies!
Practicality is the killer of dreams! I've been practical and "responsible" all my life. I'm tired of that.

front seat is OK - don't sell it
put the LATCH system in the front seat that will allow you a key switch to disable the airbag. (child seat fastener system)
there are 2 seats you can get to haul the little guy or gal around.
and, you're legal and safe in the front seat under kalifornia law becuase you cannot put the LATCH system in the back

I would make certain of the CA law but I bet there is provision for a child to ride up front.
I used to ferry my eldest rear facing in my Boxster for two years, with no issues. Of course now I can take all three kids in my 997. (in NC)
Don't make the mistake that two of my friends made where they think that both cars in the family have to seat the entire family, that just is hardly ever the case. And where the need arises drive in two cars.
Make it work! And your kids will get to talk about their 911 experience's growing up.

No, in fact now you have a reason to keep it. The 911 is probably the only "super car" that can fit two kids in the back. My kids love riding in the back and will have tons of great memories and grow up to be future Porsche fans, hopefully.
BTW. Congrats on the kid!

The manual airbag cut off switch is approximately $600. (Dealer undercharged me in 3/08 @ around $400 b/c he didn't realize that the passenger seat had to come out as part of the install. A $150 part that they charge $250+ in labor to install!!! The safety aspect made the cost a non-factor though.) You use the ignition key to turn it on and off and it fits neatly into the front of the passenger door jam.

1) No shoes in the car
2) No food in the car
3) No touching the paint
Our Main Family car is an Audi A3 but we all fit fine in the 997. I'm 6 foot 200 lbs
my wife is 5'10" and my twins are 3 years old. Don't get me wrong, it's snug and cozy but it's so much fun and they know it's special. They tell everyone "we rode in the Porsche".

My kids are already in college now (still can't believe it) and when they were young, I had the same rules in my cars (including the M3). No food / drink, no matter what. We never took the M3 for a family trip, if it was me picking up / delivering in the M3, it was short distances. And for crying out loud, even an infant can survive 10-20 minutes without their fruit snacks, cheerios, juice, etc.
