Default 997.2 Center Muffler

Having just 600 miles on my 2009 Carrera S, I purchased and installed the AWE Cross Over Pipes to replace that unbelievably quiet third muffler. The install was easy and the sound much improved. The car is still more quiet than my 997.1 with FVD mufflers. For $695 plus shipping, this is a worthwhile upgrade for anyone considering this option. Quality of pipes very good as well!

I'm thinking of doing the same + the 997.2 muffler set. Mike we spoke a few days ago and you were very informative, I might wait until the full 997.2 kit comes out to do it all at once. Stupid question; aside from the actual mufflers, what exactly are the secondary/third mufflers I keep hearing people talking about? I thought there is only one set of mufflers per car. Are cats being referred to as mufflers also? Is the part that the crossover pipes replaces also considered a "muffler"??

Yes, that center muffler is more of a resonator than a muffler and it really does not muffle much sound at all.

I was running the Fabspeed side muffler delete pipes for a while. These delete the stock very heavy side mufflers and use just the center muffler/resonator. This system is loud, great at the track but a lot of drone on the highway.

I suggest you get some lightweight free flowing side mufflers. AWE, Fabspeed, Tubi, FVD, Cargraphic all make some really nice options.

I did basically the same thing when I first got my '09 C2S except I went with the Sharkwerks center muffler by-pass. Have had it on for 10 plus months witjh no problems and having put almost 12,000 miles on it I like the sound yet the cabin stays quiet at highway cruise. Another feature is you lose 10 lbs at the place you most want to lose weight

And you only gave me a $25 gift certificate which was part of the deal anyway! Glad to promote a well made product.

^^^^^^

What he said....

Yes, the 997.2's have two side mufflers and one center muffler. The 997.1 had just two side mufflers.

Notice the cat placement.

Picuture of the 997.2 with our cross over pipes and stock muffers:

Looks the way FVD and Techart are selling their tuning kits for the 997.2 cars
