997.1 Muffler ByPass - Who runs 'em?
So does anybody actually run them on their car all the time?
My sense is that most people have tried them out and then removed them after their head felt like it was going to explode.
I had open pipes on my 1997 Carrera S and I wore earplugs on long drives to the track.

my on 997.1 the bypass pipes i had really didnt fit right, but running them without tips because they wouldnt slide onto the pipe enough to center themselves in the "exit holes" they were extremely loud, i kinda liked it but i knew that on highway drives and day to day driving it was excessive..
the "gundo hack" of the side mufflers was a great alternative, cheaper, and also sounded better.. throatiness under accel.. burbles and pop's under decel, and a great calm sound at highway speed's and day to day easy on the throttle driving..
my vote would be on 997.1 to gundo hack the sides, and if timid.. u can always find a set of someone elses sides for sale like 300-400 and hack em 100-150 and you'll be very happy.

At the track witha helmet and a ear piecve in for the pit radio your ears will ring like after a Kiss concert. Driving on the street....forget the cell phone, the radio, hearing a emergency vechile.....and you will be deaf in no time. would be fun at the mall setting off car alarms though.

hahahaha well, I found out that you can not run the muffler bypass pipes in conjuction with the catbypass pipes for the fabspeed gt3 conversion so I'm going to stick it out with OEM mufflers for right now.
Have you guys heard the muffler bypass pipes paired with the catbypass pipes before? I was told from the guys at fabspeed it would be cup car loud, but is it really that unbearable?
I ran full exhaust with just mufflers no cats on my e46 m3 and that was pretty damn loud, but nothing ears ringing, brain exploding loud haha.

You guys are scaring me! I was considering running muffler bypass pipes paired with the cat bypass pipes if its possible. Car is not a DD though.
NO SERIOUSLY IT'S STUPID LOUD. I did this before I spent the money on the pipes. But, if you don't believe me...

I made this set today from mandrel bent 2 1/8" tube.
$18 a piece and just cut to fit.
Wow, I love it. Its like driving a cup car around town.
Car is not DD, sound tolerable if you watch throttle postition but DAMN when you get on it. Talk about "the loud pedal"
