Bob....I agree.
I've never run Pcar spec for winter rears......started that trend w/993.....carried through w/996 and Turbo......on those cars I actually run same tire all around......235s on 8Js with rears spaced out for good looks. They ran just great.
I've been slow to outfit the wife's new 997.2 C4S, so she's in the garage, but was thinking of breaking my trend and going 265s in the back, but hesitate messing w/a good thing.
Anyway...we have 8-12" predicted here by tomorrow PM.
Love winter Pcar driving.....you can leave most everyone behind and as I've said many time's, it's the best winter practice (for summer autocross ).

Left the C4S at home today and took the bus. Quite a different experience. Was concerned that with a foot predicted would have clearance issues. The prediction has been scaled back to 6 inches by 5pm and then another 4 or so. Could have driven the C4S today oh well....

As for 295s I decided to go with Porsche's recommendation. In 3 inches the other night it was much easier to break loose than my 01 S4 with 225 Blizzaks but I still felt in total control.

Calling for the first winter storm here tomorrow 30 centimeters, i.e., a foot. Should be interesting! Greg, I think this may be the same system, a Colorado Low they call it.

My car has sport PASM which makes it about a half inch lower than usual. I may be plowing the roads around my home!

kind gents, pls report back w/ your experience w/ C4S WITH snow tires. I have Pirelli Winter240 Sottozeroes.... I hope I can drive this thing for my daily commute in the snow... if not, the mrs would not be happy about my top reason for trading in my 335i convertible...

Learn it and you'll leave SUVs, trucks, and all behind.....and have fun doing it.

As Bob said....ground clearance is really the only reason for leaving it home.
Only other comment.....I personally like a clutch in the winter.....disengaging that drive line for free rolling can be a 'saver' if you find yourself in an unretrievable situation....but that's just me.

Drove the C4 to work with 4 inches of fresh stuff this morning. No issues at all. The Sottozero's seem to have good traction even starting up hills. You can definately get the back to kick out if not easy on the gas, but nothing unmanageable. Loving my winter car!

My C4S (aka Carlotta) loves the snow. No problems driving into work this morning. Clearance is the only issue and the roads had been plowed pretty well.

Drove my C2 base with 18" winters for the first time ever in the snow today. 265 rears and continental 810S tires. So far so good!

It's been snowing on and off for the last few days here in Chicago. Looks like it will finally accumulate later tonight. But no big accumulation in the city so far, thus nothing challenging for my new 19" Sottozeros yet. In terms of the feel, these snow tires are not noisy. With the lighter wheels, the whole set up feels great.

Expect the T4S to be even more fun than my S4 or TT this winter. Can't wait.

No snow tires, just the stock tires.
I might also mention this was really Ice not snow.
I fell twice, one time I was standing still and my feet went out from under me.

I'm always amazed at people who spend so much on a great car and drive them without proper tires.
In parts of Canada it is now illegal to drive without winter tires. This should be standardized to protect people on the roads from cheapskates or ignorant drivers.

My Turbo (AWD) with Pirelli Sottozero winter tires is awesome in the snow. I can routinely start from a red light better than most cars around me. It's sure-footed in all conditions.

The only issue is clearance. On the really deep days, I plan ahead and work from home.

I guess, YMMV.
