Default Huge audio system in a 997.1 S

Hello,

I just purchased a used 997.1 S and the previous owner had made some significant mods to the audio system. I would like some advice on whether I should keep all those parts. My two concerns are: weight of the equipment, and battery drain. Here's the setup:

Alpine IVA-W200 DVD system in the console
Two Zapco 350.2 reference amplifiers in the front (350 watts each)
Alpine-ready Sirius radio in the front
Two JL 10" subwoofers in a custom wooden and carpeted enclosure behind the rear seats

I am thinking of removing the whole subwoofer enclosure and the 1 Zapco that drivers them.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

How does it sound? I bet it's pretty good - Once a sound system has been replaced you may be dropping the "new" soundstage way outta wack.

Does it have the Bose upgraded system?

It used to!

I suspect most of the speakers in the car are the Bose upgrade speakers. He told me the car now has 16 speakers (including the 2 subs).

The sound is very good actually. I didn't mention this but he also upgraded the whole exahuse system to an AWE-Tuning system that just sounds amazing. I love listening to that and can say it's much better than anything else I've heard.

Yet I put on the Jazz channel on the Sirius and the sounds was very crisp and clean.

T-

I think you answered your question. The sound is good- I wouldn't mess with it - this is a clear case where I would put the money to a pcna driving course/ de to learn and to lap the car a little quicker. Maybe a chip if it doesn't have it or a light weight fly wheel?

Thanks great to hear about the AWE - Tuning System - is it a full system? Heads, cats, cans?

Hi,

Yes, it's the full AWE system.

My biggest concern is the battery. The car cranks slowly when starting and the P dealer suggested it may be the audio pulling too much juice.

Thanks,

I suggest you have dealer check the battery and the alternator as well. What if the battery is on the way out? Does the audio system get power all the time (ie even when it's off)? Maybe you can somehow disconnect the power to the system (pull the fuse? Quick disconnect plug?) and see if this makes a difference.

Simple test. Turn the system off and start the car. If slow start, it's the battery. The system shouldn't pull any power at all esp the amp when it's off. Sound like a nice system. Is the PCM still in place hidden? I thought the PCM is required to handle certain functions within.

If the PCM is needed for something, I hope it has wireless because right now it's sitting in a box in my garage!

As for balck on tera, no, that would not be the one. Sorry, not sure what that comment is about.
