For all the insistence on changing the oil more frequently then Porsche recommends, I can't really discern any pattern of posts of say, 996 users, where changing the oil with elevated frequency translated into meaningful reduction of repair bills down the road. You can read thousands of posts on various issues after the warranty expires, MAFs, alternators, coolant leaks, electrical issues, window regulators, design issues around IMS, and the list goes on, but how many users are rebuilding their engine at say 90k miles because they didn't change the oil at 1k? Engine failure due to changing oil at manufacturers suggested intervals simply is not the weak link of the chain (in terms of repair dollars).

I don't buy into excessive oil changes. I've owned a MB that is running with 180k miles using 10k oil change intervals during its life. It has had about 4k in bills over the years on all sorts of stuff, but not anything related to oil change intervals. BMW past 60k miles running perfectly with 15k oil intervals (per BMW program).

As Dan says above, changing oil above mfg recommendations is your right to do so, but it is not going to translate into a positive return on investment for you.

Alright, let's get some evidence. Someone with a new 911 please do an early oil change and send a sample to Blackstone Lab for an analysis and report back to all of us:

Hope you're doing that on your own misguided initiative and not as a result of others telling you to do that, 'cuz they were obviously pulling your leg if so.
