Again you are not paying attention. That is a 993 video with a steel hood. 997s have an Al hood and one does not push the badge emblem down. The proper procedure is to use the 2 hands on both sides of the emblem (see info below from the 997 manual). I hope you understood it now.

Every P-Car dealer I have spoken to about this issue claims
one should lightly press on the emblem in order to safely close
the hood.

It looks like we still have disagreement over the proper procedure.

Perhaps using two hands is proper. However, it is a hassle
when one hand is holding your briefcase on your way into the office
in the morning.

It's your car and it seems that you know what to do. If instead you are interested in learning see post #16.

Very good. I have not seen this instruction.

Thanks for the heads up.

I posed my question initially when I first posted my cars arrival... What got my attention was that I thought the hood required slightly more pressure to close, after I installed ( properly ) my group buy Shild liner. Thanks for all of the input and especially post #16.

Pressure to the hood as indicated in post # 16 works best. I use the base of the palm near the wrist, ( anatomically not sure what its called )...no fingers, minimal mess and closes like a charm. Thanks a million.

Interestingly, both the owner's manual and the "Getting Started - The Quick Reference Guide" documents for my 2009 997 have the following instructions:

"Lower the lid and close it.

Push the lid closed with the palm of your hand in the area of the lock."

Porsche has obviously updated this info with the 2010 documentation. Thanks for posting the new info.

You are welcome, but, I'm curious, didn't you get that brochure with your car? There's additional interesting info in there too.
Dealers also have that brochure in their collection. Every 997.2 owner should get one.

There's a copy of the brochure available in the Public files area of Renntech.

Is this a brochure unto itself or is it in the owners manual? Will check my packet now. I've been working since I've gotten the car it seems and haven't read a thing...probably treating it too much as "plug n play".

It's a separate brochure. I didn't get one with either my 07 or 09 C2S.

I'm surprised some of the older (as in long time) Porsche owners haven't pointed out the danger in pressing directly over the crest. The crest is convex, and with enough pressure, you can make it concave, thus cracking the finish and losing points at your next Concours! While this is somewhat tongue in cheek, there have been crests damaged in older Porsches by pressing in the center of the crest. I gently lower the lid to the first catch, then use my thumb and first two fingers in the points of the crest to close the lid.

For two years (996 body) I have used my palm pressed on the emblem and apply gentle pressure until it latches. So far, so good.

Weird, I was just thinking about this today after loading my trunk, I would use my palm near the crest, but earlier today figured using the crest would save the fingerprint issue (black car).

I'm sure anywhere on the hood is fine as long as you are gentle and keep your wristwatch away from the paint.
