Here's the original thread with pictures for reference:

My main question was if anyone from CA performed this mod on their 997.1 stock (non-PSE) exhaust? This looks like an inexpensive way for me to get the sound I'm looking for, but I need to make sure I won't have any problems with CA smog checks because of this mod. I'd say the answer to that would likely be no, as the mod is done after the cats - but I'm no expert.
Also, any noticeable performance difference (good or bad) after the mod? Thanks in advance for any info.

These exhausts are being sold on that auction side, by a reputable name with good feedback, on said product. Essentially it's a std 997 exhaust with a "banana" added where an oem 997 sport exhaust would normally exit and a second cross pipe that seems to avoid some gases even entering the muffler. This way you get the “hack” done professionally and it’s a core exchange meaning your preferred shop drops the old and in with the new with zero down time on your 997.
Second picture is an oem sport exhaust for comparison (which looks like it needs duel tips to be mounted on our C2’s).

I know this does not address your question, but I had it done on my '08 997S the sound is amazing, and it was a $250 MOd all in. Such a great deal, if you are mainly looking for improved sound. I don't believe it did anything for overall performance, but I did not care.

This really has taken on a life of it's own - I love the hack and would definitely recommend.
My problem with those eBay hacked mufflers is that the dude paints them. You have no idea how old they are or how many miles are on them.
Granted he is reputable and had good feedback, but with the crossover mod, you know exactly what you are getting.

I bought a set of mufflers with the Gundo hack already installed (the mod was done by Darin Fister who I think also posts on Rennlist). Very happy with the sound, it's better than I expected and very hard to top it for the price... I still have my original mufflers so it's easy to switch back to stock if need be. I've noticed no change in performance, and the car sounds so much better than stock.
