Default Boiled socks smell from A/C

Not that I regularly boil socks.....but every time I turn on my a/c, the car smells musty for a bit until it clears up. I remember hearing about a filter that is replaced periodically that will clear this up. I had the 2 year inspection on schedule last year & it still has that funky smell. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Next time, turn the AC off 2/3 miles before you shut off the engine for the day and turn the ventilation up during that time to dry up the vent pipes.

read up on airsepts EED, the only long term solution for the "dirty/wet gym sock odor" that I am aware of.

It takes a LOT longer than that to dry out one of these "tightly woven" A/C evaporators. The evaporator operates as close to freezing as modern technology will allow so first you have to take the time for the evaporator vane surface temperature to rise WELL above dewpoint and then you must have the time for the condensate to evaporate and be exhausted from the A/C plenum and then the passenger cabin itself.

CAn take as much as 24 hours without the blower running.

I had a similar issue with my Audi S4. When the smell would start I ran the heater to dry the evaporator. It worked for about 2 months then it would come back.

Good luck!

we also had this problem with our Audi, the service manager used an Ionizer contraption that cured the issue completely, (after 3 visits first for cabin filters) I would call your service Mgr, and ask him about this process.

Good luck

Ive always been told to run the heater for 5 minutes at the highest temp and speed...supposed to burn up anything trapped in the vent tubes...worth a shot.

You may want to call Wurth and ask them which product to use:

I'll give it a try. The temp here in the desert has been on the mild side. I've had the a/c off for the last few days & have had the windows/sunroof open. What a treat! NO AC!

Nothing, NOTHING, works long term other than parking inside with the windows down or sunroof open each and every night or the airsept device.

Oh, one other possibility...NEVER run the A/C.

I bought a Nuvonair ozone generator and used it in my wife's car that had the moldy air conditioner smell. I left it on with the air on recirculate for about a half hour and then turned the car off and left it on and in the car overnight. It cured the problem.

I had a similar problem in my old Audi TT after my girlfriend shot the contents of her stomach (Legal Seafoods fried clams) all over the car and into one of the vents. It stunk as bad as that relationship was.
I solved the problem by selling the car.
